SUWANEE, Ga. - In the final SCAC cross divisional of the season, the DePauw Tigers were able to do what no other conference team could upto this point. The Tigers ended Trinity's 15 game winning streak with a 61-54 home win. Elsewhere in league action, four of the eight spots in the upcoming SCAC Basketball tournament were wrapped up the weekend of January 30-February 1.

 AROUND THE SCAC

Austin got a pair of big wins over the weekend, holding off Sewanee for a 65-61 win and toppling Oglethorpe 64-59. Against Sewanee, Chris Sturtevant scored 19 points and Kola Alade added 14 points and eight boards as the ‘Roos raced out to a 20 point lead midway through the second half and held off a furious rally by the Tigers to pick up their 10^th win of the year, surpassing last year's win total. Against Oglethorpe, Sturtevant hit a three midway through the first half to give the ‘Roos the lead and they would not relinquish it the rest of the way, picking up their second road victory of the weekend to improve to 11-8 overall and 5-5 in conference. Alade paced the ‘Roos with 14 points, Sturtevant added 13, and Nick Wade hit three triples to finish with 12 points in his first career start. For the weekend, Sturtevant averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds and hit 3-of-6 from deep and 52.4% from the floor and Alade added 14.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.  
 
Birmingham-Southern split two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games this week. The Panthers traveled to Sherman, Texas for a matchup with the Austin College Kangaroos. The Panthers hung tough, but came up short in a 69-64 decision. BSC was led by Aaron Parr who scored 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Also chipping in for the Panthers was Nathan West who tallied 15 points. BSC came away with a 54-51 win over Colorado College on Sunday. Parr once again led the Panthers as he scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-8 from behind the arc. Michael Rebarchak added 12 points in the winning effort. Birmingham-Southern will host Millsaps College on Friday, January 30 at 6 p.m. then host Hendrix College on Saturday, January 31 at 4 p.m.

Centre College entered the SCAC weekend match-up against Southwestern and Trinity riding a six game SCAC win streak. The Colonels extended that win streak in the first game of the weekend by defeating visiting Southwestern, 73-63. One day later the Colonels lost a heartbreaker to # 8 Trinity on a last-second Trinity put-back, 58-56, ending the current SCAC win streak and giving Centre its second SCAC loss of the season. Centre is now 15-4 overall and 8-2 in the SCAC with away league games against Rhodes and Birmingham Southern up next.

Colorado College's 55-52 victory at Sewanee was the first road victory for the Tigers since joining the conference for the 2007-08 season, and the first victory away from home since a 79-63 victory against UC Santa Cruz on Feb. 24, 2007. Jarrell Sweet forced a turnover in the final minute of play and turned it into a game-winning basket on the ensuing possession. Nick Rose led CC with 12 points and four steals, while Brady Ohlsen added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Despite another strong performance from Ohlsen, CC dropped a 75-58 decision at Oglethorpe University on Friday. He scored a team-high 17 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Seniors Nate Brodman and Lance Jacobs will be honored prior to Friday's game against Hendrix College.

No. 25 DePauw swept its weekend games with a 61-54 win over eighth-ranked Trinity and an 81-54 victory over Southwestern and improved to 15-5 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Trinity led by as many as seven in the first half before DePauw closed the gap to two at halftime. The host Tigers gained the lead for good midway through the second half. Trinity was within three with less than one minute left, but the Tigers closed the game with a 6-2 run. Mike Moore led the Tigers with 19 points, while Tom Callen had 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds. In Sunday's win, Moore led the way with 22 points, while David Gray hauled down a career-high 15 rebounds. DePauw led by nine at halftime and scored the first 14 points of the second half to pull away. The Tigers have won all 11 home games this season and 35 of its last 37 at home.

Hendrix College split a pair of SCAC road contests over the weekend with a win against Rhodes College on Friday and a loss to Birmingham-Southern College on Saturday. The Warriors now stand at 13-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play. Hendrix junior guard Janson Hightower tallied a career-high 19 points, while senior forwards Andrew King and David Foley each posted a double-double to lead the Warriors to an 83-65 win over Rhodes at the Mallory-Hyde Gymnasium. Birmingham-Southern College junior guard Nathan West and junior forward Roger Williams tallied a game-best 16 points apiece as the Panthers manufactured a last-minute comeback win over Hendrix, 66-61. Warriors' sophomore guard Ryan Rizos drove the lane for two to make it a two-point affair with eight seconds left, before junior guard Cal Rose committed a technical foul seconds later. West made good on his two free throws to put the game out of reach.

Millsaps split its opening two games of a 4-game road swing, falling 68-60 at Birmingham-Southern before a bounce back win at Rhodes 84-79. Juniors Blake Martinez and Cameron Varnado both had excellent weekends, with Martinez averaging 15.5 ppg and Varnado averaging 11.5 ppg. After sitting out Friday's game at BSC, senior Chad Songy tied a season-high with 16 points in addition to seven assists and zero turnovers against the Lynx. Millsaps led for a majority of the first half at BSC but surrendered the lead at the 6:31 mark and never got back on track as the Panthers held onto the lead the final 26:31 of regulation. Martinez notched his sixth 20-point game of the year on Sunday in a huge road win at Rhodes, scoring 21 of his 26 in the second half behind six 3-pointers. Rhodes shot 60 percent in the second half but couldn't overcome an 11-point halftime deficit. Millsaps will continue its road stretch next weekend, traveling to Austin and Colorado College.

Oglethorpe split two conference match-ups this past weekend, topping Colorado College on Friday night and falling to Austin on Sunday afternoon. In Friday's 75-58 win over the Tigers, The Petrels scored 24 points off 21 turnovers created to coast to a relatively easy conference win. The Petrels dominated the offensive boards in the first, grabbing 10 to the Tigers 1 to help Oglethorpe build an insurmountable 40-25 lead at the break. Oglethorpe was led by the torrid shooting of both David Allison and Joe Kennedy who combined to score 41 of the Petrels 75 points. Kennedy led all scorers with 21 while Allison netted 20 on the night. Cold shooting doomed the Petrels versus Austin on Sunday as they shot only 38% from the field and were a dismal 4-of-20 (20%) from 3-point range. The Petrels are now 13-6 (6-4) and will travel to Sewanee Saturday night for a 6:00 p.m. battle with the Tigers.  
  
Rhodes dropped two conference home games this week. On Friday night, the Lynx fell to Hendrix 83-65. Nathan Ollie was the lone double digit scorer for the Lynx, scoring 10 points. On Sunday, Rhodes shot a season high 57.0% from the three point line and 54.1% from the field for the game but could not overcome 44.8% shooting from the free throw line and fell to Millsaps 84-79. Cory Smith led the Lynx in scoring with a game high 28 points. Rhodes will be back in action this weekend as they host Centre College and DePauw University.
 
Sewanee dropped a pair of tough games this weekend to Austin College and Colorado College. The Tigers will play at Maryville before hosting travel partner Oglethorpe this Saturday night. Seniors Bradley Pierson, Ben Pursell and Kenton Coleman are all averaging in double digits to lead the Tiger offense. Pierson is currently fourth in the SCAC in scoring and Pursell is second in rebounding. Casey Berry leads the Tiger D with 37 steals, which puts him third in the league in that category.
 
Southwestern went 0-2 on this week's road trip to DePauw and Centre.  With the losses the Pirates drop to 13-7 overall and 4-6 in SCAC action. On Friday, the Pirates matched-up against Centre College. SU struggled from beyond the arc shooting just 25 percent. Junior guard Travis Barber led the Pirates with 16 points on 5-7 shooting from the field and 1-2 from three-point. He was also 5-5 from the free throw line.  Sunday, Southwestern traveled to DePauw and had another tough shooting night. No Pirates scored in double figures and they shot just 35.2 percent for the field and 9.1 percent beyond the arc for the game. Barber was once again the high scorer with 9 points. Sophomore Jonathan Brown pulled down a season high 13 rebounds. Southwestern will hit the road again on Saturday as they take on conference rival Trinity.

No. 12 Trinity earned a weekend split on the road against the top two teams in the SCAC East Division. Trinity's 15-game winning streak was snapped by DePauw on Friday, but the Tigers rallied with a furious comeback in the final minutes to beat Centre on Saturday. Down 15 points with under five minutes to play, Trinity outscored Centre 18-1 down the stretch to complete an unlikely comeback. Trinity's Charles Houston grabbed an offensive rebound and put back a layup with one second left to win the game 58-56. The 15-game win streak was the longest in school history since joining the SCAC. Houston eclipsed 500 career rebounds in the game, finishing with 14 points and 12 boards against Centre. B.J. Moon sparked the Tigers to the win on Saturday, scoring 13 of his 18 points in the final five minutes of the game. His four-point play with 2:26 remaining cut an eight-point deficit in half, putting Trinity in position to complete the comeback. Trinity has a quick turnaround this week facing off against the University of Dallas on Tuesday night at home. The Tigers will then continue SCAC play over the weekend, hosting Southwestern University on Saturday night.
