Trinity advances to Sectional Final with 2-1 win over Ohio Wesleyan

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Trinity University Tigers men's soccer team, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division III, advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals Saturday with a 2-1 victory over No. 9 Ohio Wesleyan in the round of 16 at Swarthmore College. Box Score

Trinity (20-0-1), led by head coach Paul McGinlay, will meet Amherst (Mass.) (14-3-3) in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Central Time Sunday at Clothier Field. Amherst upset host Swarthmore, ranked No. 11, by a score of 1-0 in Saturday's round of 16.

Tiger senior forward Patrick Floeck of Carrolton, Texas, broke a 1-1 deadlock by scoring a goal with less than five minutes remaining on the clock. Senior midfielder Noe Casanova of Kingwood, Texas, provided the assist.

Trinity took a 1-0 lead as sophomore forward Cameron Hogsett of McKinney, Texas, scored an unassisted goal in the 38th minute. Ohio Wesleyan's Matt Bonfini tied the game at 1-1, 3 minutes, 56 seconds into the second half.

Tiger senior goalkeeper Patrick Johnson of Houston had two saves in the game.

Trinity led 15-6 in shots, and held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Tigers also led 3-1 in corner kicks.

This marks the 12th NCAA tournament in the past 13 years for the Tigers. Trinity won the national crown in 2003 and was runner-up to Middlebury (Vt.) last year, in a game which went to penalty kicks.
