PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Colorado College swimming and diving teams added to their impressive performances in the pool by claiming two of the top three academic honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their academic achievements during the 2007-08 school year.

The CC men's team posted a combined 3.508 grade-point average, which ranked first among the 45 colleges that earned the distinction. Washington & Lee University was second at 3.480, followed by Ohio Wesleyan University at 3.400.

The women's team finished 16th out of 70 teams with a combined 3.440 GPA.

As for other SCAC men's teams among the 45 colleges that were recognized, DePauw University, with a 3.220 team GPA, finished 21st and Hendrix College was 38th with a team GPA of 3.066.

On the women's side, Hendrix College, with a team GPA of 3.366, was 33rd and DePauw University, with a team GPA of 3.330, was 39th among the 70 women's teams that were honored.

Colorado College also led the combined women's and men's rankings with a GPA of 3.474, just ahead of New York University (3.450) and Washington & Lee (3.444).

"I am so immensely proud of this Colorado College team," said head coach Anne Goodman James. "We were thrilled with the athletic performances of our team last season, and to add this academic honor to our accomplishments shows that these swimmers and divers are truly student-athletes who are able to successfully balance the rigorous demands of both academic and athletic performance.

"I want the 07-08 team to know how much I appreciate their efforts."

Kurt Adkins, who set the school record in the 100-yard butterfly and was part of two record-setting relay teams, received all-Academic honors for the second consecutive year. That honor is reserved for student-athletes who had a GPA of 3.500 or better and qualified for the NCAA championships.

DePauw University had three female swimmers earn all-American Academic honors: Maddison Hamil (3.83 GPA), Amanda Stier (3.75 GPA) and Katie Doogan (3.55 GPA).

On the men's side, DePauw was represented on the individual all-American Academic team by Greg Nowak (3.85 GPA) and Steve Klabak (3.75 GPA).
