Patrick Johnston Tapped to Lead Sewanee Women's Soccer

SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Former All-American and All-ACC player Patrick Johnston has been named the next head coach for Sewanee's women's soccer program, according to Mark Webb, athletic director for Sewanee. Johnston has previous experience on the Mountain as the goalkeeper coach for the 2008 Tigers, who had a 10-win season.

"I am looking forward to picking up where Dylan (Harrison) left off," said Johnston. "We have a talented group of young ladies in the program and they have the raw materials to take it to the next level. I am thrilled to be coming to Sewanee."

Johnston's 20-plus years of coaching experience include stops at Illinois State University, UNC Greensboro, Barry University, and James Madison University among others. He also coached professionally in the A League with the New Orleans Gamblers.

As a player, Johnston was a High School All-American and member of the US National Youth Team. He played four years for Duke University and was selected All-ACC for three years and was selected to the NSCAA All-American Team in his senior season. Johnston went on to play professionally in England for Newcastle United (English First Division) and in the U.S. for the Miami Sharks, the Maryland Bays and the Miami Freedom (ASL, APSL).

Coach Johnston has a B.A. in economics from Duke University (1986) and is married with three children, Corinne (21), Nikki (14), Kyle (14). Patrick, his wife Andrea and his children will live in Sewanee.
