Trinity's Emodi, Hubbard Named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior outside hitters Maggie Emodi and Layne Hubbard of Trinity University were named Players of the Week for week eight of the SCAC volleyball season.

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 13th – October 19th

MAGGIE EMODI OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior outside hitter from Omaha, Neb., has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 13th through Sunday, October 19th.

Emodi led the Tigers in a competitive weekend at the UWEC Invitational, finishing 1-3 overall, but two of the three losses went to five sets. 

Emodi was the only Trinity player named to the All-Tournament Team for the weekend, leading the Tigers in kills with a total of 78 in the four matches. She averaged 4.59 kills/set for the weekend, as well as posting 49 digs, four aces, and nine blocks. In the opening match against hosting UW-Eau Claire, Emodi hammered out 26 kills to tie for the ninth-highest total in school history for a single match. She also had a double-double in three of the four matches, highlighted by 22 kills and 13 digs in Saturday's 3-1 win over Minnesota-Morris.

For the season, Emodi leads Trinity with 354 kills (3.61/set) on the year, adding 25 aces (third on the team) overall. She is also second on the team with 355 digs (3.62/set) and 60 blocks (0.61/set).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman outside hitter Madi McVay of Austin College had an outstanding game for the 'Roos in their only match of the week, totaling 11 kills against just two errors in a 3-1 win over Arlington Baptist. McVay also boasted a .375 hitting percentage and had two service aces, and also averaged 3.25 digs per setSophomore outside hitter Abbe Holze of Colorado College led the team with 14 kills in a sweep over Johnson & Wales, the team's only match of the week. Centenary and Dallas did not nominate anyone. Schreiner, Southwestern, and Texas Lutheran did not play.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LAYNE HUBBARD OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior outside hitter from Austin, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 13th through Sunday, October 19th.

Hubbard paced the Tiger defense at a very competitive UWEC Inviational last week, with the team finishing 1-3 for the weekend. 

Hubbard led Trinity with 85 total digs in the four matches, averaging an outstanding 5.00 digs/set for the weekend. She also recorded a team-best six service aces to lead the team. Against nationally-ranked UW-Stevens Point, Hubbard recorded 35 total digs in a 3-2 loss, finishing in a tie for the second-most digs in single match history at Trinity. Her 35 digs in one contest are the most since Leah Goldstein had 35 against Austin College in 2006.

For the season, Hubbard leads Trinity with 48 service aces (0.50/set), and is third on the team with a total of 353 digs. She is second on the Tiger team with 3.68 digs/set on the year.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year middle blocker Rebekah Bowden of Austin College had an outstanding game for the 'Roos in the team's only match last week, totaling seven blocks for an average of 1.75 per set and adding 1.75 kills and a hitting percentage of .429. She also had three digs and two service aces in the victory. Junior defensive specialist Sophie Merrifield of Colorado College earned a team-high 14 digs, earning double digit digs for the 26th time this season, in a 3-0 win over Johnson & Wales on Wednesday. Senior setter C.J. Broadbent of Dallas produced 13 digs on the defensive side of of a 3-0 sweep over McMurry University last Tuesday. The senior has now garnered 248 on the campaign to rank second on the team. She added 28 assists, bumping her over the 900 mark on the season. Centenary and Dallas did not nominate anyone. SchreinerSouthwestern, and Texas Lutheran did not play.
