Women's Swimming & Diving Recap (Week 10) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Four of the six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's swimming & diving teams competed this weekend.

McMurry University traveled to Colorado Springs to compete in the Colorado College Classic, hosted by the Tigers.

Southwestern University and Trinity University competed in a dual Saturday, with the Tigers coming out victorious.

Colorado College
The Colorado College women's swimming and diving team held on to its lead through Sunday and captured its own CC Classic at Schlessman Natatorium. The Big Cats finished the meet with 785.5 points, finishing ahead of Adam State (654.5), the University of Colorado club team (455), CSU-Pueblo (430), Soka University (252) and McMurry University (247). Olivia Dilorati and Megan Gillespie each won an individual race for the Tigers and started the day by joining Ellen Silk and Justina Zuckerman to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:54.87. Dilorati then won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 59.21 and Gillespie touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:34.58 and second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.52). Silk helped CC to a pair of second-place relay finishes later in the day. She swam the third leg, along with Emily Harrison and sisters Emma and Erin Holmes, in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:27.47), then led off the 200-yard free relay that finished in 1:42.76 along with Zuckerman, Annaliese Grigereit and Emily Houghton. Other top individual performances on Sunday included third-place finishes for Dilorati in the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.97), Silk in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.16) and Grigereit in the 50-yard freestyle (25.75)

McMurry University
The Warhawks competed at the Colorado College Classic this weekend, finishing in sixth place with 247 points and earning two top finishes in the competitive meet. Robyn Remschel remained unbeaten in the 100 and 200 backstroke this season, posting top finishes with times of 1:00.93 and 2:12.41, respectively. Remschel also swam a leg on both the 200 and 400 freestyle relay for the McM women, both of which finished fourth. Kelly McNamee finished behind Remschel in both backstroke events, while Zandria Rodriguez earned eighth place in the 100 back with a time of 1:19.12. Samantha Spain finished eighth in the 200 butterfly (2:57.33) and 10th in the 100 breast, while also swimming the second leg of the team's 200 free relay.

Southwestern University
In the Pirates' final home meet of the season, they fell just short to Trinity, losing by a score of 176-115. The women earned four first place and two second place finishes on the afternoon. Kenly Gaynor took first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:18.75 and second in the 100 fly (1:03.10). Blythe Nava snagged first in the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.33. Madison Doty and Ryann Lawley finished first and second, respectively, with times of 1:00.95 and 1:03.43 in the 100 back. Natalie Lesnick finished in first in the 200 IM with a timeof 2:17.55 to round out the top finishers for the women.

Trinity University
The women's swimming & diving had a successful showing against Southwestern over the weekend, defeating the Pirate 176-115 at home, while capturing 12 of the events. Lydia Jones earned a top finish in two individual events, the 50 free and 100 free with times of 24.83 and 53.93 seconds, respectively. Kelly Holton swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1:11.49 and the 200 in a time of 2:36.78. Bethany Rysak placed first in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.80, Thea Hesson was the top finisher in the 200 back  (2:13.58), Rachel Hure brought home the 500 free (5:32.65) and Rebecca Andruzzi was the champion in the 1000 free with a time of 11:38.06. The Tigers also won the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. In diving, Trinity took the top six spots in the 1-meter event and the top five spots on the 3-meter board. Danielle Freund won the 1-meter event with a score of 282.20, followed by Sarah Kate Mrkonich with 272.80 in second. Mrkonich scored 310.15 points to win the 3-meter diving, while Freund posted 304.00 for second place.
