Colorado College and Trinity University Both Ranked by AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association released the Division III Top 25 poll for the third week of competition. Colorado College (11-2) dropped from No. 6 to No. 10 after two losses this past week, while Trinity University (8-4) moved up two spots to No. 17 following a dominating weekend at home. Colorado College began the week against Division II Colorado State University-Pueblo, falling 3-1. The team then traveled to California, going 3-1 on the weekend. The team then traveled to California and  beat Chapman University, Whittier College and Pomona-Pitzer University in straight sets, recording 104 kills, 106 assists and 166 digs between the three matches. CC fell to the University of La Verne in the last match of the weekend, but recorded 50 kills, 46 assists and 76 digs in the loss.

The team's leader in kills, Abbe Holtze recorded 68 kills through the five-game week. She also put up eight blocks and 67 digs. Sarah Barker, the setter for the Tigers, put up 103 assists and 20 digs through the contests. Defensive specialist Sophie Merrifield posted 82 digs on the weekend.

The Trinity Tigers moved up two spots in the poll after winning four straight matches this weekend at home. Trinity dropped only 2 sets in the two matches, both of which came against George Fox University in the first match of the weekend. TU recorded 187 kills on 456 total attacks. The team also put up 171 assists and 221 digs.

Maggie Emodi, the team-leader in kills, recorded 30 this weekend, while also marking 36 digs. Setter Erika Edrington had 81 assists in the four matches and defensive specialist Shannon Courtney had 53 digs.

Both teams will begin conference play this weekend. Trinity will take on Southwestern University Friday evening before playing a double-header against Texas Lutheran University and Schreiner University Saturday. Colorado College starts the weekend Saturday, playing against the University of Dallas and Austin College. CC finishes off the weekend against Centenary College Sunday.
