Trinity Bows Out of NCAA Tournament with Loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scrips

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The 21st-ranked Trinity Tigers volleyball season ended Sunday with a 3-1 loss to the No. 17 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas in the NCAA Division III Round of 16. Interactive Bracket | Regional Website 

Trinity (30-10) lost 19-25, 25-22, 21-25, 20-25 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at the Thousand Oaks Regional held at California Lutheran University. In September, the Tigers were 3-0 winners over the Athenas, at the Trinity Fall Classic.

But Trinity made a good run in the tournament, starting with a 3-0 victory over the University of La Verne on Friday. The Tigers then upset third-ranked Cal Lutheran 3-1 in the second round on Saturday.

Last season, Trinity hosted the San Antonio Regional and advanced to the final match, where the Tigers fell 3-1 to Cal Lutheran in the Sweet 16.

All-American Maggie Emodi posted a double-double Sunday, with 15 kills and 16 digs, along with blocking six shots. Erika Edrington also had a double-double, with 37 assists and 15 digs.

All-American Erin Cusenbary had her usual high hitting percentage performance. Cusenbary  made 14 kills, committed four errors, and initiated 31 total attacks for a .323 mark.

Shannon Courtney led the team with 19 digs, while All-American Layne Hubbard added 12.
