Trinity Women Hold Lead Heading into Final Day of 2015 SCAC Swimming & Diving Championship

ROCKWALL, Texas -- Trinity University saw Colordo College cut into its lead but the Texas Tigers still hold a 75-point advantage heading into the fourth and final day of the 2015 SCAC Swimming & Diving Championships. Official Website | Friday's Complete Results | Team Scores | Video Recap

Trinity has 639 points after Friday's session with Colorado College in second with 564 points. Southwestern University is in third place with 459 points followed by Centenary College with 232 points, Austin College with 176 points and McMurry University with 160 points.

First-year swimmer Rebecca Andruzzi of Trinity picked up the victory in the 400 IM - her second individual title of the 2015 championships. She touched the wall in a time of 4:40.03. Freshman Natalie Lesnick of Southwestern was second in a time of 4:41.03 and junior Annalise Grigereit of Colorado College placed third in a time of 4:42.32.

Junior Olivia Dilorati of Colorado College broke a six-year old SCAC meet and open mark in the 100 butterfly with a winning finish of 56.28. It was her second consecutive conference win in the event and the time was good enough for a NCAA 'B' cut. Teammate and freshman Ellen Silk also earned a NCAA 'B' cut with a time of 56.63. Junior Becca Bond placed third with a time of 58.30.

In the evening's next event, senior Lydia Jones of Trinity picked up her second win of the 2015 championships, earning a first-place finish while establishing a new SCAC meet and open record in the 200 freestyle. The third consecutive year she has won the event, Jones touched the wall with a time of 1:52.17 - good for a NCAA 'B' cut. The Tigers earned the top three spots on the awards stand as the freshman duo of Bethany Rysak and Lauren Cuda finished second and third, respectively, with times of 1:55.04 and 1:56.61.

Junior Megan Gillespie of Colorado College gave the Tigers their second win of the evening taking first-place honors in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.34. Senior Kelly Holton of Trinity was second with a finishing time of 1:07.42 while junior Jackie Nonweiler of Colorado College placed third in a time of 1:08.76.

In the 100 backstroke, Austni College junior Lauren Wheeler earned the first gold medal ever for the 'Roo swimming program and finished the race in a time of 57.99. She finished just ahead of freshman Robyn Remschel of McMurry who was second in a time of 58.40. Senior Chelsea Russell of Centenary placed third with a time of 59.01.

In Friday's final women's event, the Colorado College 400 medley relay team of Dilorati, Gillespie, Silk and Grigereti swam the second-fastest time in SCAC championship history - finishing with a winning mark of 3:53.29. It was the second consecutive year that the CC women have won the event. Trinity University was second in a time of 3:57.76 and Southwestern University finished third in a time of 4:06.03.

Thus far, SCAC women's teams have produced three conference meet and open records at this year's championships as well as nine NCAA 'B' cuts.
