Trinity's Jones; Freund selected as SCAC Female Swimmer and Diver of the Year

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Trinity University teammates Lydia Jones and Danielle Freund were named the league's female Swimmer and Diver-of-the-Year, respectively, based on exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Jones, a senior from Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, put an exclamation point on her time at Trinity with a career year. She was named the league's Swimmer of the Meet at the conference championship event, leading the Tigers to the SCAC Championship. Jones won three individual conference titles in the 50 freestyle (23.45), 100 freestyle (51.14), and the 200 freestyle (1:52.17) – breaking the Trinity records in all three events. The 100 and 200 freestyle swims were also new SCAC Meet and SCAC Open records.

Additionally, Jones was a key member of three relay victories for Trinity, highlighted by a new SCAC Meet and SCAC Open record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.03). At the NCAA Championships, Jones earned Honorable Mention All-America recognition after scoring in the consolation finals of both the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

Jones' honor marks the third consecutive year that a student-athlete from Trinity has been selected SCAC Female Swimmer-of-the-Year and the fourth time overall.

A freshman from Kennewick, Wash., Freund made quite the splash onto the Trinity diving team, earning All-America honors on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the 2015 NCAA Division III Diving Championships. Despite suffering a midseason injury that sidelined her for the conference championship meet, Freund was still able to make a triumphant return to the board for the NCAA Regional Meet where she took the top spot in the 3-meter event to earn her place at nationals.

Freund didn’t disappoint at the NCAA Championships, earning All-America honors with a fifth-place finish on the 3-meter board, and garnering Honorable Mention All-America accolades for her 10th-place finish in the 1-meter event.

Continuing the program's dominance on the boards, Freund's selection as the league's Diver-of-the-Year marks the 10th consecutive year that a Trinity female student-athlete has earned the honor.

In exclusive voting of the league's head coaches that took place at the 2015 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships, the Colorado College coaching staff and the Trinity University coaching staff were named SCAC Women's Swimming and Diving Co-Staffs-of-the-Year.
