Trinity's Freund, MrKonich Qualify for NCAA Diving Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Trinity University diver Sarah Kate Mrkonich placed second on the women's 1-meter board at the second and final day of action at the NCAA Division III  Region 2 Zone Diving Championship on Saturday.

Mrkonich scored 431.80 points after 11 dives, just behind Sarah Hayhurst of Centre College and her winning score of 464.60. Both qualified for the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships to be held March 18-21 at Shenandoah, Texas.

In Friday's session on the 3-meter board, Mrkonich was runner-up to teammate Danielle Freund. The two Tigers qualified for nationals on both the low and high boards as a result of their performances.

Trinity's Mollie Patzke finished fifth in the 1-meter event (400.60), and Christine Peterson was sixth (379.65). Alexa Bird came in at No. 13 (321.50), and Sara Miller was 18th (247.35).

In addition to Freund, Hayhurst and Mrkonich, Maia Presti of Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges earned a trip to nationals with a third-place finish (402.00) on the 1-meter board.
