Austin's P. Watson, Colorado College's R. Watson Named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore setter Rebecca Watson of Colorado College and sophomore middle blocker Presleigh Watson of Austin College were named Players of the Week for week six in the SCAC Volleyball season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 29th – October 5th

REBECCA WATSON OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore setter from Taylor Lake Village, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 29th through Sunday, October 5th.

Watson led the 11th-ranked Tigers to a 3-1 weekend including a huge win over ninth-ranked Christopher Newport this past weekend at the Pike's Peak Challenge.

Watson was brilliant over the weekend, finishing with 150 assists in four matches including 52 against Nebraska Wesleyan, 36 against UC-Santa Cruz, and 33 against Christopher Newport. She added 13 service aces and 11 kills, hitting .345. Watson also made some plays defensively, finished with 12 blocks over the weekend including a career-high seven against Christopher Newport. She also tied a career-high with 12 digs in the win over UC-Santa Cruz.

For the season, Watson is ninth in the conference with 5.12 assists/set, well above her season average this weekend at 9.38. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore middle blocker Presleigh Watson of Austin College had an outstanding week to help Austin College go 3-1, notching 10 kills in all four matches for an average of 2.86 kills per set and boasting a .436 hitting percentage Junior middle blocker Jaime Birzer of Dallas led the team with a .343 attack percentage over the weekend and helped Dallas to a 2-0 weekend. She led the team in kills with 27 with 2.70 kills/set. Sophomore middle blocker Kirby Kincannon of Southwestern hit .383 on the weekend and led the team with 21 kills to go with three blocks as the Pirates went 1-1 this past weekend. Senior setter Katie Darst of Texas Lutheran had 30 assists vs. UT-Dallas and are the most she's notched in a three-set match this year, she also tallied her fifth double-double of the season against the Comets, tying her season high with 14 digs. Senior outside hitter Maggie Emodi of Trinity led Trinity to a 3-1 victory over NAIA Our Lady of the Lake University in the team’s only action last week. Emodi finished as the match leader with 15 kills and 21 digs. She also posted a .300 hitting percentage in the four-set victory, committing just three errors in 40 total attacks. Centenary and Schreiner were idle this past weekend.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

PRESLEIGH WATSON OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore middle blocker from Oklahoma City, Okla. has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 29th through Sunday, October 5th.

Watson, who came in as the nation's leader in total blocks, led the 'Roos to a 3-1 weekend and was a menance yet again defensively.

Watson finished with 21 blocks over the weekend, averaging 1.50 blocks/set throughout. She had nine blocks in a straight set victory over Jarvis Christian. She was also great offensively, where Watson finished with 40 kills, averaging 2.86 kills/set while hitting .436.

For the season, Watson continues to lead the conference, and the nation, with 117 total blocks, and is sixth in the nation with blocks/set at 1.31. She also leads the conference in hitting percentage at .389 and is fourth in the SCAC with 220 total kills.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore outside hitter Abbe Holtze of Colorado College led the Tigers with a double-double in every match averaging 3.75 per set while adding six blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Jessie Koster of Dallas had 67 digs over the weekend, averaging 6.70 digs/set including a 35 dig performacne against Wylie College. Junior outside hitter Kaitlyn Corbett of Southwestern picked up 29 digs over the weekend, averaging 3.62 per set, to lead the Pirates to a 1-1 weekend. Senior defensive specialist Megan Lee of Texas Lutheran had 27 digs in Saturday's 3-0 win over UT-Dallas, which are the most she's had in a three-set match this season. The match marked the ninth 25-plus dig performance of the season. Senior outside hitter Maggie Emodi of Trinity led Trinity to a 3-1 victory over NAIA Our Lady of the Lake University in the team’s only action last week. Emodi finished as the match leader with 15 kills and 21 digs. She also posted a .300 hitting percentage in the four-set victory, committing just three errors in 40 total attacks. Centenary and Schreiner were idle this past weekend.
