Cowart and Wright named Golfers of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference names Jordan Cowart and Jamie Wright the Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively, for tournaments played through Tuesday, September 30.

 

 

 

 

 

 

MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
For tournaments played through Tuesday, September 30

JORDAN COWART OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Golfer of the Week for tournaments played through Tuesday, September 30.

Cowart finished the Gordin Classic in a tie for eighth place, leading the Pirates to a top five team finish.

Cowart carded a 69 through the first 18 holes before struggling in the afternoon, shooting a 77. Cowart was able to put up a 73 in the third and final round for an overall mark of 219 (+3).

This is Cowart's third competition of the Fall 2014 season. He started the season with a 16th place finish at the John Bohmann Memorial Invitational before heading to the Rhodes College Fall Classic where he earned a ninth place finish.

Cowart's first round score of 69 is his lowest for the year. He is also averaging a score of 72.40.

The Pirates will continue competition at the Oglethorpe Invitational in Flowery Branch, Ga. next weekend.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Jamie Gibson of Centenary College, a senior from Barnsley, England, paced the Gents at the Al Jones Jr. Memorial Tournament as they earned a third place team finish. Gibson finished in a tie for sixth place with a 36-hole score of 146.

 

WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

JAMIE WRIGHT OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior from Alexandria, La., has been selected the SCAC Women's Golfer of the Week for tournaments played through Tuesday, September 30.

Wright led the Ladies to a ninth place finish at the Al Jones Jr. Memorial Tournament. Wright finished the competition in ninth place in a field of 44 golfers.

Wright shot a 79 through the first 18 holes and added a mark of 82 in the second half for a final score of 161.

This is the first tournament of the season for the Ladies. The team will head to Birmingham, Ala. next weekend to compete in the Birmingham Southern Tournament.
