Trinity's Santana; Colorado College's Wulff Earn SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -Trinity University midfielder Goncalo Santana and Colorado College defender Christian Wulff have been named SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week for week three.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 8th – 14th

GONCALO SANTANA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore midfielder from Salvador, Brazil, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Septemerber 8th through Sunday, Septemeber 14th. 

Santana led No. 4 Trinity to a pair of wins over the weekend, defeating Southwestern to open SCAC play, and also defeating sixth-ranked Christopher Newport.

Santana grabbed a goal and four assists to pile up six points in the two games, scoring most of those against nationally-ranked CNU. He scored a goal and an assist on the first two Tiger goals on Friday night, then assisted on both of the team's second-half goals - including the game-winner.

For the season, Santana leads Trinity with 10 points in six games played, scoring two goals and a team-best six assists.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman forward Thomas Quick of Austin College had a tremendous game for the 'Roos in their only match of the week, scoring two goals and adding an assist to help Austin College battle No. 17-ranked UT-Dallas to a 3-3 draw. Sophomore midfielder Jeremy Klespis of Centenary provided the Gents' game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Concordia (MN) in the 85th minute. Sophomore midfielder Caden Mackenzie of Colorado College set up Seth Newby's game-winning goal in Friday's 4-0 victory over Centenary College and then scored the game winner in Sunday's 6-0 win over Concordia-Moorhead. Freshman midfielder Andres Carreno-Mende of Southwestern had two goals against sixth-ranked Christopher Newport on Sunday off the bench. Junior forward Isaac Lopez of Texas Lutheran scored a goal and tallied an assist in the same game for the second time this season, assisted on game winning goal against Schriener. Dallas and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.


SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Games of September 8th – 14th

CHRISTIAN WULFF OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore defender from Lutherville, Md., has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Septemerber 8th through Sunday, Septemeber 14th. 

Wulff elped the Colorado College defense post back-to-back shutouts, its third and fourth of the season.

The Tigers, led by Wulff, lowered its team goal-against average to 0.67 and held each opponent to fewer than five total shots and one shot on goal.

Wulff set up Caden MacKenzie's game-winning goal in the 6-0 victory over Concordia-Minnesota.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman defender Roberto Gutierrez of Austin College was excellent all day against a high powered UT-Dallas team, playing the full 110 minutes of action in a draw with the No. 17-ranked Comets and helping the 'Roos earn the draw with his outstanding defense despite UTD out-shooting the 'Roos 28-9. Junior forward Jake Morrison of Centenary provided a strong back line for the Gents over the weekend assisting in keeping the Maroon and White in both matches. Junior defender John Wall of Southwestern came off the bench and helped stabilize the back line and has been the most consistent center back. Sophomore defender Nathan Drouillard of Texas Lutheran continued his strong start to 2014 by scoring the second goal of his season in a 2-0 win over Schreiner. DallasSchreiner, and Trinity did not nominate anyone for the award.
