INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference track & field athletes were selected to compete in the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships.

Marquis Brown of Texas Lutheran University was selected on the men’s side, while Brittany Sullivan of Trinity University earned a spot for the women’s competition.

Brown, the SCAC Track Athlete of the Year, qualified in the 400-meter dash, giving TLU Men's Track & Field its first competitor at the NCAA Championships.

Brown will compete in the preliminary round Friday, May 22. There will be three heats, with the two top competitors in each heat, along with the two next best times out of all competitors, advancing to the finals.

Brown is ranked 18th in the country in the 400, with a time of 47.98 seconds. He recorded that time at the UIW Invitational in early April.

Sullivan will compete in the triple jump, and is the first Tiger first-year to earn a spot at the national meet since in 2009.

This season, Sullivan broke the Tiger record in the triple jump on four different occasions, as well as being a part of the record-breaking 4x100 meter relay team this year. Sullivan also posted the second-best mark in school history in the long jump.

With a mark of 11.80 meters in the triple jump, Sullivan is 17th nationally. This mark came at the Trinity Invitational on March 27. She also jumped 11.69 meters at the Hardin-Simmons Twilight Invitational this past weekend.

For each men’s individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women’s individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
