Colorado's Ogilvie, Trinity's Lawson, Southwestern's Carmichael Named SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior forward Brandon Ogilvie of Colorado College, senior forward Johnny Lawson of Trinity University, and sophomore goalkeeper Travis Carmichael of Southwestern University have been named SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week for their performance in Week 4 of the SCAC Men's Soccer season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 15th – 21st

BRANDON OGILVIE OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a senior forward from Manchester Center, Vermont, and JOHNNY LAWSON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 15th through Sunday, September 21st. 

Ogilvie scored all four goals as Colorado College posted 2-1 victories at Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University last weekend.

Ogilvie struck for a pair of goals in the second half as the Tigers defeated Schreiner in its first road game of the 2014 season on Friday afternoon. On Sunday at Texas Lutheran, Ogilvie scored 3:52 into overtime to give CC a 2-1 victory. Ogilvie's header off a long cross from sophomore defender Christian Wulff eluded TLU goalkeeper Jonathan Michael for the first 'Golden Goal' of his career.

With a pair of game winners, Ogilvie now has three this season and 12 for his career. Ogilvie, who leads the SCAC with eight goals and 17 points, has seven goals in his last three games. It also marked his third consecutive multiple-goal game and the sixth of his career. 

Lawson led the 4th-ranked Trinity men's soccer team to road victories over Austin College and the University of Dallas to earn a weekend sweep in SCAC play.

Lawson scored three goals and contributed two assists over the two games, as well as picking up his first game-winning goal of the season. Against Austin, Lawson opened the scoring with goals in the 12th and 24th minutes, with his opening score being the eventual game-winner in the Tiger shutout. In Sunday's win over Dallas, Lawson assisted on the first two goals – including the game-tying goal in the 14th minute, and the game-winning goal with a little more than 10 minutes left until halftime. He then capped the game's scoring with a goal in the 62nd minute to seal the win.

For the season, Lawson now leads the Tigers with 16 total points, netting a team-best six goals to go with four assists (second on the team). He has scored one game-winning goal, which came during this week's action. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman forward Gregg Guittierez of Schreiner helped lead the Mountaineers to a 1-1 week. He had a goal in the loss to Colorado and in the victory over Centenary. Freshman midfielder Christian Lopez of Southwestern scored what would be the game winner on an assist from David Arellano, and notched a second on a rebound before the half-time whistle. Both Lopez's goals came in the first half. Austin College, Centenary, Dallas, and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.


SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

TRAVIS CARMICHAEL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore goalkeeper from Kerens, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Septemerber 15th through Sunday, Septemeber 21st. 

Carmichael led the Southwestern Pirates to their first two wins of the season, both coming in conference play, as he secured a pair of shutouts.

Carmichael started teh weekend with a 1-0 win over the University of Dallas, picking up three saves in the match. Two days later, it was another three save performance for Carmichael, this time getting the victory over Austin College, 3-0.

For the season, Carmichael has 34 saves, which is second in the conference, and his first two wins of the 2014 season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore goalkeeper P.J. Hasson of Dallas managed 90 minutes in the net. In a 1-0 decision against Southwestern, the sophomore didn't allow a goal and picked up two saves. Junior goalkeeper Jonathan Michael of Texas Lutheran tallied his conference-best fourth shutout of the season in a 0-0 draw against Centenary and made a season-high nine saves in a 2-1 overtime loss to Colorado College. Junior defender Tom Carwile of Trinity and the Tiger defense gave up just one goal in the two victories, which started with a shutout win over Austin College. Carwile and the defense held Austin to just four total shots in the game, and he also added to the offensive effort with a goal and an assist. Austin CollegeCentenary, Colorado College, and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
