Men's Track & Field Recap (Week 5) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – All five of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s track & field teams were in action last week.

Colorado College traveled to Hays, Kansas to compete in the Alex Francis Classic, while the University of Dallas headed to Oklahoma to compete in the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational.

Trinity University hosted the Trinity Tiger Invite this weekend, with Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran both in attendance.

Colorado College
The Tigers traveled to Kansas to compete in the Alex Francis Classic this weekend, hosted by Fort Hays State. In the 100 meter dash, Justin Nguyen took 17th with a time of 11.85 seconds, one spot ahead of Robin Li who finished with a time of 12.24 seconds. Gabe Fine took 19th in the 200 meter dash, posting a time of 24.11 seconds. Li took 21st in the same event with a time of 25.48 seconds. Fine also competed in the 400 meter, taking 13th with a time of 54.34 seconds. He was head of three teammates who took 14th-16th places. Sean Fite finished with a time of 57.03, Sam Stansel posted a time of 59.75 and Francisco Castro took 16th with a time of 1:00.81. In the 800 meter, Tucker Hampson took 10th with a time of 1:58.95, while Whit Henderson took 16th in the 1500 (4:42.34). Graham Frank earned the first points for the Tigers, finishing eighth in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:31.27. The next point-scorer was Conor Terhune who took sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:48.70. Nguyen and Li competed in field events, as well, finishing seventh and eighth in the long jump, respectively, to finish out the day for the Tigers.

University of Dallas
The University of Dallas Men's track and field team competed in the Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) Invitational this past Saturday. Highlighting the results individuals for the Crusaders was junior Ryan McAnany, notching the second overall time in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference on the 1500 meter. McAnany shattered a personal record with a 4:08.12 time in the event. Sophomore Thomas Pierick set a PR in the 400 Meter with a 55.45 second time. Just missing a top 10 finish was sophomore Kevin Doherty in the 5000 Meters. He tallied a 16:52.38 mark to take 11th in a difficult race. 

Southwestern University
The Pirates traveled to San Antonio to the Trinity Tiger Invite this weekend. The team finished the meet in seventh place. Tyler Adams set a new Southwestern record in the hammer throw and discus on Friday at the Trinity Invitational in San Antonio. Adams posted a ninth place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 34.50 meters and took 18th in the discus with a throw of 36.42 meters. Will Devine had a strong day in the shot put with an eighth place finish and throw of 12.48 meters. Alex Medrano had a strong outing in the 5000, finishing in eighth place with a time of 16:55.19 while Paden Williams finished in 14th in the 800 in a time of 2:03.51. Abraham Devenport came in second in the 10K, finishing in a time of 38.01.74, just over two minutes behind the first place finisher.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs traveled across town to the Trinity Invite this weekend, taking fifth place in a tough field. Marquis Brown had a pair of top-three finishes to start out the day, taking third in the 100 meter dash, finishing just one-hundredth of a second out of second place and six-hundredths of a second out of the top spot, marking a time of 10.98 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, Brown took second place with a time of 22.14 seconds. Bryce Johnson also competed in the 100 meter dash, taking seventh place with a time of 11.17. In the 5,000 meter run, Jacob Lara took 10th place, marking a time of 17:01.31. Jonathan Hilman took seventh in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.32 seconds, Christopher Frank followed that up with a 10th place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.45. The 4x100 relay team of Johnson, Brown, Zach Velasquez and Hilman took fifth place with a time of 44.10 seconds. Velasque and Brown then teamed up with William Cook and Christopher Frank for the 4x400 relay, also taking fifth with a time of 3:27.56. In the field events, Jordan Sims got things started with a ninth place finish in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.12 meters. Reggie Scott followed that up with an eighth place finish in the triple jump, 12.06 meters. In the javelin throw, Ethan Powell took fifth place (42.89 meters), the top mark among SCAC competitors.

Trinity University
The Tigers hosted the Trinity Invite this weekend, finishing second in the meet with 90 points. Eric Booker got off the a quick start, taking second in the 100 meter dash (11.97 seconds) and third in the 200 meter dash (22.27 seconds). In the 100, Booker was joined by Cody Wolfe who took eighth place and Adam Saunders in 12th. Mike McIntosh took sixth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.83 seconds, while Ian Plantz was Trinity’s top finisher in the 800 meter run, 1:57.71. Right behind him was Kirk Gulliver with a time of 1:58.92. In the 1500 meter run, Taylor Piske took fifth place with a time of 4:06.63 followed by Austin Brown in ninth place and Daniel Henkes in 12th. Ryan Hernandez won the 10,000 meter with a time of 35:52.51, just over two minutes ahead of his competitor. Michael Erickson took the top spot in the 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 9:52.50. Saunders, Booker, Wolfe and Eric Soo teamed up to win the 4x100 relay, posting a time of 41.95 seconds. Booker teamed up with Miro Ronac Giannone, Mike McIntosh and Plantz for the 4x400 relay, finishing fourth in the event. David Stroud and Louie Montoto got things started in field events, taking third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Stroud marked a height of 1.93 meters in the event. He later took sixth in the long jump at 6.27 meters. Vincent Omegba finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.24 meters, while teammate Montoto took seventh, 12.43 meters. Stephen Mason earned another top-10 finish for the Tigers in the shot put, taking sixth place with a throw of 12.68 meters, while Matt Love took fourth in the discus throw, 45.88 meters.
