SCAC Names Mucci Assistant Director of Communications & New Media

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – After being awarded one of 18 NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grants, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference today announced the hiring of Katie Mucci as the league’s Assistant Director of Communications & New Media.

The highly desired and prestigious grant provides funding for entry-level administrative positions at Division III institutions and conference offices to encourage access, recruitment, selection and the long-term success of ethnic minorities and women.

"We are extremely excited to have Katie join the SCAC staff," said commissioner Dwayne Hanberry. "After reviewing almost 300 applications, Katie’s diverse skill set, including a strong graphics design and social media background, really stood out. We were focused on finding someone who would be a valuable asset as we begin the process of revamping the conference website as well as finding someone who could help us expand our presence on social media.  We think we hit it out of the park by finding Katie and couldn’t be more pleased to have her on board for the next two years.”

A 2014 graduate of the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in journalism and mass communication, Mucci served as the school’s Sports Information Intern her senior year where she was the primary media contact for the men’s and women’s golf programs. She also assisted in other areas, including program design for the baseball, volleyball and wrestling programs as well as infographic design that was used on the school’s athletics website and social media accounts.

Mucci also served as the Marketing Manager for The Mirror, the UNC student newspaper. In that capacity she was in charge of the paper’s social media strategy as well as the coordination effort to celebrate The Mirror’s 95th birthday. Her marketing strategy during this celebration helped the paper’s Facebook page realize a 30 percent increase in “likes” as well as increasing reach and engagement by 700 percent.

Mucci is scheduled to begin her appointment with the SCAC on August 1.
