Men's Track & Field Recap (Week 1) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s track and field teams kicked off their outdoor season last week.

Trinity University hosted the Trinity Open this weekend, with two other SCAC institutions participating in the event, University of Dallas and Texas Lutheran University.

University of Dallas
Highlighting the affair for UD was junior Jack Grubner with a personal record (PR) 16:59 in the 5000 meters. Grubner ranked fourth overall on the event and shattered his previous mark by almost 20 seconds. Sophomore Kevin Doherty finished third place in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a 10:28 total. This time just missed his PR by five seconds. Junior Ryan McAnany and Grubner took first and second, respecitvley, in their heat of the 1500 run and snagged 10th and 12th out of the competitors. Sophomore Paulo Salazar represented on the field well for the Crusaders, taking seventh on the Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin Throw.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs traveled to San Antonio this weekend to compete in the Trinity Open. Marquis Brown finished third in the 2000meter dash and second in the 400-meter, while Donald Manuszewski took second in the 800-meter. The quartet of William Cook, Zach Velasquez, Christopher Frank and Brown finished second in the 4x400 relay. Corbin Grobe placed third in the long jump, while Alejandro Briseno finished second in the shot put. Cody Thornburg placed second in discus, joined by Cagan Chaney who took third. Grant Kuempel came in second in the javelin competition.

Trinity University
The Tigers hosted the Trinity Open this weekend, posting five top finishes and many other impressive times and marks. Eric Booker posted a winning time of 21.95 seconds in the 200-meter dash, while Kirk Gulliver’s 2:03.79 time in the 800-meters was the day’s best. Cody Hall won the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 59.06 seconds, while Louie Montoto took the high jump title with a mark of 1.85 meters. Matt Love was the winner of the discus throw of 42.55 meters. The second-place 4x100 meter relay unit of Adam Saunders, Cody Wolfe, Eric Soo and Hall ran the event in 43.90 seconds. Michael Erickson was the runner-up in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and Daniel Henkes placed fourth. In the 100 meter dash, Wolfe took third place with a time of 11.25 seconds, while Saunders came in fifth overall. Austin Brown and Taylor Piske placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,500 meter run. In the long jump, David Stroud’s 6.37 meter distance was good for second place, while Lars Besselaar was second in pole vault.
