Trinity Women's Tennis Jumps Six Spots in ITA Rankings to No. 32

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Trinity University women's tennis team jumped six spots in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, moving up to 32nd in the nation. The Tiger are also ranked seventh in the west region and are joined by two other Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference teams in the region.

Trinity has posted a record of 5-6 this spring, including wins over No. 31 Chapman University and regionally-ranked CalTech. Their only losses to Division III competition came against No. 6 Bowdoin College and No. 8 Pomona-Pitzer.

Texas Lutheran University (7-4) earned their first regional ranking of the spring in the latest ITA release after being unranked on March 3. Schreiner University (10-4) jumped two spots in the regional rankings from No. 21 to No. 19. Since the last release, the Mountaineers have gone 6-2, including a win over regionally-ranked George Fox University.

TLU's Sofia Vega leads three SCAC players ranked in singles in second. Vega is 9-1 on the season with her only loss coming against NCAA Division II No. 32 St. Edwards University in a three-set battle. Vega has posted straight set victories in all but one of her wins this season in the No. 1 singles spot.

Ranked 14th in the west is Trinity's Liza Southwick, followed by teammate Marie Lutz in 24th. On the season, Southwick is 3-7 at the No. 1 spot and 0-1 at No. 2 singles. Lutz has posted a record of 4-4 at No. 2 singles and 0-1 in the top spot. The two Tigers are also the fifth-ranked doubles pair, posting a record of 4-7 on the season.

Trinity will compete next against Division II Midwestern State University before taking on Vega and the Bulldogs in Seguin, Texas Saturday.
