Austin College's Eaves; Colorado College's Lucero Named SCAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Austin College senior Shelby Eaves and sophomore setter Devon Lucero of Colorado College have been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Players-of-the-Week for Week One of the SCAC Volleyball season.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of August 30 – September 2

 

SHELBY EAVES OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior outside hitter from Farmersville, Texas has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 2.

Eaves came away with 83 total kills and 36 digs, averaging 5.19 kills and 2.25 digs per set as she led Austin College to a 2-2 opening weekend at the Averett Cougar Classic.

Eaves
had a .260 hitting percentage and added 10 total blocks on her way to being named to the All-Tournament Team.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore outside hitter Jaime Birzer of Dallas had 26 kills including 10 against Wisconsin-Superior this past weekend. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Phillips of Colorado College averaged 3.77 kills and 3.85 digs per set. She recorded three double-doubles, including 18 kills and 15 digs in the come-from-behind victory over Augsburg College.  Sophomore right side hitter Abbie Robb of Southwestern led the Pirates in kills with 42 in three games and a hitting percentage of .343. Freshman outside hitter Brette Threadgill of Texas Lutheran led the team with 28 kills on the weekend and hit .155 over the three matches. Junior outside hitter Maggie Emodi of Trinity scored a double-double in three of the four matches this past weekend, leading the team in both kills (39) and digs (54). Centenary and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.


SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of August 30 – September 2

 

DEVON LUCERO OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore setter from Pueblo, Colo., has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 3.

Lucero
was voted Most Valuable Player of the Colorado College Invitational after leading the Tigers to a 4-0 record and the tournament title.

In addition to helping CC post a .232 attack percentage, Lucero added 11 kills, 35 digs and had a hand in a team-high 13 total blocks. During the come-from-behind victory against Augsburg College, she recorded weekend highs of 58 assists, 13 digs and five blocks.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defensive specialist Rachel Fusselman of Austin College had a strong start to the 2013 season at the Averett Cougar Classic, averaging a team-best 3.69 digs per set with only five receiving errors in four matches. Junior defensive specialist/outside hitter Brooke Bahlinger of Centenary with 41 digs in a stellar defensive performance at the Hendrix Labor Day Tournament. Freshman outside hitter/defensive specialist Jessie Koster of Dallas totaled 55 digs including 19 in both of her games on Saturday afternoon. Junior defensive specialist/libero Maggie Lee of Texas Lutheran finished the weekend with 53 digs while also coming up with three service aces, including 31 digs against UT-Tyler. Sophomore defensive specialist Sarah Price of Trinity finished second on the team with 53 digs and an average of 3.79 digs/set for the weekend. Schreiner and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
