SCAC Lands 10 on NSCAA All-Scholar Region Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Nine women's soccer student-athletes from Trinity University and one student-athletes from Southwestern University were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of American Women's All-Scholar Region Teams on Monday evening.

All coming from the South Region, seniors Jennifer White, Shelby Guenthardt, and Michelle Lanier of Trintiy along with juniors Kelsey Falcone and Emily Jorgens earned First Team honors. Senior Shelby Hopkins and junior Kirby Peddicord of the Tigers were named to Third Team. Juniors Devan Osegueda and Kimberly Polasek of Trinity and senior Lindsey Jakszta of Southwestern were named to Honorable Mention.  

White, a defender from Albuquerque, N.M., is majoring in International Studies in Spanish and is carrying a GPA of 3.98. White was the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year where she was a defensive stalwart for the Tigers. She also earned First Team All-SCAC as well as First Team All-Region. Especially adept at anticipating service to the feet, and cutting out possession, White was the leader of the SCAC's best defense which posted 16 shutouts, and allowed only six goals in 22 games. Included in the stat were only two goals in conference play. White also contributed to the offensive effort with two goals and seven assists. In postseason play, White wasn tremendous defensively, leading the Trinity defense to the National Championship Game.

Guenthardt, a forward from Winter Springs, Fla., majors in Engineering Science to go along with a GPA of 3.86. She earned First Team All-SCAC honors as well as Second Team All-Region. Guenthardt scored 17 goals on the season which was third in the SCAC and added 13 assists. She has tallied 52 total goals in her career, which is ninth all-time in goals scored in the SCAC. 

Lanier, a forward from Albuquerque, N.M., is a Psychology and is carrying a 3.34 GPA. She earned First Team All-SCAC honors as well as Second Team All-Region. Lanier was a tremendous offensive threat all season long, scoring 13 goals and adding 13 assists on the season. She came up huge in the Final Four matchup against Middlebury, scoring the first goal of the game en rout to a 2-1 win, punching the Tigers ticket to the National Championship Game.

Falcone, a midfielder from San Antonio, Texas, is a double major in Biology and Communications and carries a 3.50 GPA. Falcone was selected as the 2013 SCAC Tournament Offensive MVP and earned All-SCAC, All-Region, and All-American honors. She scored a SCAC-leading 19 goals (four game-winners) on the season to go with 11 assists in leading the Tigers to their 18th SCAC Championship. In postseason play, Falcone has been absolutely terrific, scoring two goals and adding two assists to lead the Tigers offensively. Falcone has scored in 17 of the 26 matches played this season as the Tigers have outscored their opponents 122-10 in 2013. Falcone has scored 34 career goals to go with 27 career assists and 95 points.

Jorgens, a midfielder from Austin, Texas, majors in Accounting and is carrying a perfect GPA of 4.00. She was named First Team All-American, All-Region, and All-SCAC and also earned the NCAA Soccer Elite 89. Jorgens won her second consecutive Player of the Year honors, and led the SCAC in scoring with 17 goals (seven game-winners) and a conference single-season record of 28 assists. In the playoffs, Jorgens has added a goal and twoassist including a key goal late in the game against Illinois Wesleyan to push the game into overtime where the Tigers eventually won in PKs. She finished the year tying the Division III single season record of 30. Jorgens is the holder of a SCAC-record 61 career assists. Her 141 career points ranks seventh on the conference all-time scoring list.

Hopkins, a defender from Albuquerque, N.M., majors in Engineering Science and carries a GPA of 3.51. Hopkins played in 27 games and earned the start in 22 in 2013. She scored two goals on the season while adding two assists. She was a part of a defense that allowed an average of 0.46 per game. 

Peddicord, a defender from Houston Texas, majors in Geosciences and has a GPA of 3.62. Peddicord earned Second Team All-SCAC for her efforts this year. She was apart of an outstanding defense that only gave up 11 goals and contributed herself on offense, scoring one goal and assisting on five more. 

Osegueda, a goalkeeper from San Diego, Calif., double majors in Biology and Enviromental Studies and carries a GPA of 3.50. Osegueda earned Second Team All-SCAC for her efforts this year. She was apart of an outstanding defense that only gave up 11 goals all season long en rout to finishing Runner Up in Nationals. She came away with three shutouts as well as three combined shutouts on the season.

Polasek, a midfielder from Houston, Texas, majors in Biology and currently holds a perfect GPA of 4.00. She was a Second Team All-SCAC selection in 2013. Polasek played in all 28 games, earning the start in 23, and scored four goals to go with four assists on the year. Polasek had a game winning goal agianst Wheaton to punch the Tigers ticket to the Final Four.

Jakzsta, a midfielder from Colleyville, Texas, majors in Psychology and currently holds a GPA of 3.62. She was a First Team All-SCAC selection in 2013 and led her team to a SCAC Championship appearance against Trinity. Jakzsta was sixth in the SCAC in goals scored with 11 and tied for fourth with seven assists, placing her sixth in points with 29. In her final season she posted a .167 shot percentage and .515 shots on goal percentage with four game winning goals.r.
