GEORGETOWN, Texas - Athletics Director Dr. Glada Munt announced the hiring of Billy Porter as the new head men's and women's tennis coach for Southwestern University.

Porter spent three years at the University of Dubuque, a Division III program in Dubuque, Iowa, as the head men's and women's tennis coach before focusing solely on recruiting as a national scouting director. While at Dubuque, Porter posted the highest winning percentage in school history (62.5%) and crowned six individual conference champions in his three seasons. His men's team won the most conference matches in a single season and qualified for the post season, a feat that had not been accomplished in the 25 years prior to Porter's arrival.

The women's team was resurrected by Porter as he compiled more wins in two seasons than the previous eight years combined.

"I am extremely excited to get back into the coaching world and am blessed to have the opportunity to do so at a world class institution as Southwestern University," stated Coach Porter. "With the leadership of Dr. Munt, the elite academics and top of the line facilities, Southwestern University has everything in the making to be a superior place where tennis student-athletes will have a five star collegiate experience"

Porter brings a solid recruiting base and connections to Southwestern as he most recently served as the Regional Scouting Vice President for NCSA Athletic Recruiting. There he oversaw over 100,000 student submitted leads and communicated with college coaches while advising student-athletes throughout the recruiting process.

Porter has a master of arts in communication from the University of Dubuque (2008) and graduated with his bachelor of arts in communication from Dubuque in 2005. He was a member of the Spartan men's tennis team, playing #1 doubles and #2 singles, and was named team captain his junior and senior seasons.

The Pirates open the season at the ITA Regionals. The women begin competition on September 20th in Tyler, Texas while the men kickoff on September 27th in San Antonio, Texas.
