TLU's Peavy, Austin College's Loy and Uland Named SCAC Football Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Texas Lutheran's Cameron Peavy and Austin College's Scott Loy and Josh Uland have been tabbed SCAC Football Player-of-the-Week after their excellent performance this past weekend against some great competition.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 5th

CAMERON PEAVY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 6-0, 202-pound senior wide receiver from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 5th. 

Peavy caught 11 passes for 216 yards, two shy of the TLU single-game record, which he holds, and tied the school record for touchdowns in a game and touchdowns receiving in a game. 

Peavy shares the total touchdowns in a game mark (4) with three other Bulldogs. Peavy is fourth in the nation in receiving yards per game and seventh in receiving TDs per contest. He caught four of the six touchdowns thrown by his twin brother, Brent Peavy.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior running back James Nwankpah of Austin College had a career day for Austin College, rushing 23 times for 149 yards and a touchdown in a 31-0 win over Southwestern. Sophomore wide receiver Cody Sandman of Trinity led with four receptions for 99 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor. Southwestern did not nominat anyone.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 5th

SCOTT LOY OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 6-1, 197-pound junior defensive back from Rockwall, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 5th.

Loy had a big game as the 'Roos shut down the Southwestern offense, limiting the Pirates to just 155 yards - including just 55 through the first three and a half quarters. 

Loy picked off a pass with no return and proceeded to make six tackles, including five solo stops as the Austin College defense forced three Pirate turnovers and claimed their first shutout since 2006 when they shutout Southwest Assemblies of God 7-0.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defensive back Drake Dowling of Texas Lutheran stopped a pair of East Texas Baptist University drives with interceptions in the Bulldogs' 64-41 win over the Tigers. Freshman defensive lineman Austin Lee of Trinity recorded seven tackles and grabbed a pair of fumble recoveries to lead Trinity's defense in a loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor. Southwestern did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 5th

JOSH ULAND OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 6-4, 235-pound junior defensive end from Duncanville, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 5th.

Uland was dominant on special teams in a 31-0 shutout win over Southwestern, blocking two punts. 

After his first blocked punt, Uland scrambled 21 yards down field and recovered it on the goal line, leading to the team's second touchdown of the day. Uland also had three tackles and a sack from his defensive line position.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior kicker Tyler Bradenburg of Texas Lutheran made field goals of 38 and 27 yards in the win over ETBU. Brandenburg's 38-yarder in the second quarter was his career long for a made field goal. Southwestern and Trinity did not nominate anyone.
