TLU's Kirkpatrick; Austin College's Lozoya Named SCAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Texas Lutheran's Sioned Kirkpatrick and Austin College's Franchesca Lozoya were named SCAC Women's Soccer Players-of-the-Week after their tremendous performance this past weekend in conference play.

 

 





SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 30th – October 6th

SIONED KIRKPATRICK OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, September 30th through Sunday, October 6th. 

Kirkpatrick continued her goal-hunting ways this weekend, helping the Bulldogs to a 1-1 weekend that featured a shutout of Centenary and a tough loss to Austin College on the road. 

The sophomore finished with two goals, one assist, nine shots and five shots on goal over the two matches.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore midfielder Cami Mavelian of Austin College had a strong weekend for Austin College, leading the 'Roo attack in both of the team's victories and tallying the game winner in a 1-0 victory over Texas Lutheran on Sunday. Junior midfielder Carly Slovensky of Centenary posted both goals in the decision over Schreiner – marking her second, multi-goal contest of the season. Freshman forward/midfielder Sarah Bevins of Southwestern scored one goal on five shots and had four shots on frame in the Pirates' 2-0 win over the University of Dallas. Senior forward Shelby Guenthardt of Trinity University scored the only goal of the second half on Friday afternoon, capping the team's victory, and moving up to second on the team in scoring for the season. Dallas and Schreiner did not nominate anyone for Offensive Player-of-the-Week.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 30th – October 6th

FRANCHESCA LOZOYA OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore goalkeeper from Lubbock, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, September 30th through Sunday, October 6th. 

Lozoya was outstanding in goal to help the 'Roos go 2-0 last week.

Lozoya earned two clean sheets in victories over Schreiner and Texas Lutheran while making nine total saves, including six in a big win over TLU to move Austin College into a tie for fourth place in the SCAC Standings.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman goalkeeper Erica Coker of Centenary freshman totaled 12 saves in the win over Schreiner – marking her fourth double-digit, save performance of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Mariah Escajeda of Southwestern made three crucial saves to keep the shutout intact and made five saves on the afternoon to record the win for the Pirates. Freshman goalkeeper Erin Rose of Texas Lutheran was solid in goal all weekend for Texas Lutheran, allowing just one goal in two matches and helping the Bulldogs to a weekend road split .Junior defender Shelby Hopkins of Trinity led the defense to its seventh shutout in the past eight games on Friday, defeating the University of Dallas 3-0. Hopkins and the Tiger defense yielded just four total shots in the game, with none of those shots being on goal. Dallas and Schreiner did not nominate anyone for Defensive Player-of-the-Week.
