Austin College's Murphy, Packard; TLU's Singletary Named SCAC Football Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Austin College's Bryce Murphy and Nathan Packard as well as Chantz Singletary of Texas Lutheran have been named SCAC Football Players of the Week for Week Nine after a terrific performance this past weekend to lead their teams to victory. 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, November 2nd

BRYCE MURPHY OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 5-8, 180-pound junior running back from Crawford, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 2nd. 

Murphy carried 20 times for 145 yards and two touchdowns to lead Austin College to its third straight win.

Murphy scored on runs of 58 and 27 yards in the victory to lead the 'Roos to a 25-6 win over Southwestern to improve to 1-1 in the SCAC.

He has now brought his season rushing total to 818 yards which leads the SCAC.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior wide receiver Cameron Peavy of Texas Lutheran hauled in 10 passes for 106 yards and two scores in a 37-27 win over Louisiana College. Southwestern did not nominate anyone. Trinity was idle this past weekend.

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, November 2nd

CHANTZ SINGLETARY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-10, 177-pound freshman cornerback from Houston, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 2nd.

Singletary set the TLU DIII era record for pass breakups, with seven, and added a key interception that led to a touchdown late in the first half. 

Singletary intercepted LC's Easton Melancon at the LC 42 with less than 30 seconds to play in the first half. Singletary returned the pick 36 yards to the LC 6.
TLU scored a play later on a Trenton White pass to Cameron Peavy. to take a 21-7 lead going into halftime.

Singletary also added five solo tackles as the Bulldogs improved to 7-0 with a 37-27 win over Louisiana College.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Southwestern did not nominate anyone. Trinity was idle this past weekend.

 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, November 2nd

NATHAN PACKARD OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 6-0, 220-pound senior linebacker from Dallas, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 2nd.

Packard had a big game for the Austin College defense as the 'Roos topped Southwestern to improve to 1-1 in the SCAC.

Packard blocked a punt to force a safety and increase the 'Roos lead to 22-3 in the second quarter.

Additonally, Packard made 10 tackles (six solo) including 2.0 for loss, and he also blocked a punt. In two games this season, Packard has helped limit Southwestern to just two field goals.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman kicker Laith Tucker of Southwestern first field goal came from 42-yards and added a second field goal from 30-yards out giving him two field goals in a game for the first time this season. Junior Tyler Bradenburg of Texas Lutheran hit all three of his field goal attempts from 26, 29, and 25 in the Bulldogs' win over Louisiana College. Trinity was idle this past weekend.
