Trinity's King, Turner; TLU's Bradenburg Named SCAC Football Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity's Desmond Kind and Julian Turner as well as Texas Lutheran's Tyler Brandenburg have been named SCAC Players of the Week after their performances last weekend to lead their respective teams.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, November 9th

DESMOND KING OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 5-7, 174-pound senior running back from Pearland, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 9th. 

King led the Tigers to a 58-20 win over Southwestern University on Saturday, completing a season series sweep over the Pirates.

King posted his second career 100-yard game rushing, toting the ball 17 times for a career-best 121 yards and two touchdowns.  His first touchdown tied the game 13-13 in the second quarter, and the Tigers never trailed again after that.  King’s final score came at the end of the third quarter, and put Trinity up 34-20.

With his day, King also became the 22nd player in Trinity history to reach 1,000 yards rushing in a career.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior running back Dominique Hardaway of Texas Lutheran went over 100-yards rushing for a second straight game with a career-best 130 yards and a career-long 75-yard TD run against Hardin-Simmons. Southwestern did not nominate anyone. Austin College was idle this past weekend.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, November 9th

JULIAN TURNER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 6-1, 215-pound freshman linebacker from Katy, Texas has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 9th.

Turner recorded a pair of tackles and two fumble recoveries to lead the Tigers to a 58-20 win over Southwestern University on Saturday.

Turner picked up his first fumble recovery of the day midway through the fourth quarter, and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown that put the Tigers ahead 51-20.  His second recovery came on Southwestern’s final drive, and finished off a 24-0 fourth quarter by Trinity.

For the season, Turner has recorded 14 tackles in nine games played, and is tied for the team lead with three fumble recoveries for the Tigers. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Southwestern and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone. Austin College was idle this past weekend.



 

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, November 9th

TYLER BRANDENBURG OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 6-2, 210-pound junior kicker and punter from Spring, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, November 9th.

Brandenburg matched his career-best for single-game field goals with another three field goals. 

He made a career-best 40-yarder in the second quarter. He added 25 and 30-yarders in the first quarter. 

Brandenburg was also 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts and punted four times for 134 yards (33.5 per punt).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman kicker Kevin Wise of Trinity he hit seven consecutive tries after that to tie for the fifth-most in Trinity single game history and connected on a 29 yard field goal. Southwestern did not nominate anyone. Austin College was idle this past weekend.
