AROUND THE SCAC

The Austin College women's soccer team dropped its two matches over the weekend, falling 3-1 at Southwestern and 6-1 at Trinity. Against Southwestern, the 'Roos got a goal from Lauren Scott, her fifth of the season, on an assist from Mandi Sherwood, but it was not enough to overcome the Pirates. Franchesca Lozoya made five saves in the game. Lozoya added an impressive 14 saves in the loss to Trinity, as the Tigers used 49 shot attempts to just four for Austin College to pull away from the 'Roos late, scoring three goals in the final six minutes to open up what had been a 3-1 game after a goal by Maddy Millender.

Centenary posted a 0-2-1 record this week as the Ladies fell in conference action after forcing a 2-all tie with Texas College on Tuesday afternoon. Carly Slovensky posted the lone two goals for the Maroon and White on the week. Erica Coker tallied 33 saves on the week, including back-to-back, double-digit save efforts in conference action with a career-high 15 against Trinity and 11 against Southwestern. Centenary returns to the pitch Friday, Oct. 4 as they host Texas Lutheran at 5 p.m.

The University of Dallas women's soccer team went 1-1 on the week in conference. On Friday, in Seguin, Texas, the Lady Crusaders lost 1-0 in overtime to Texas Lutheran following a 98th-minute score by Sioned Kirkpatrick from Courtney Farmer. On Sunday, in Kerrville, Texas, head coach Angelina Pane's bunch defeated Schreiner, 2-0. Sophomore forward Rebecca Brunter led the way as she finished with two goals to sit with five on the season. Junior midfielder Michelle Carpenter and senior goalkeeper Brigid Hasson each notched an assist. On the slate this week for Dallas are two home conference games -- Trinity (Friday, 12 p.m.); Southwestern (Sunday, 12 p.m.).

The Schreiner Mountaineers were 0-1 on the week. On Sunday, Schreiner hosted University of Dallas, and fell 0-2. This week, the Mountaineers will travel to Austin College (Friday, Oct. 4th) and to Centenary (Sunday, Oct. 6th).

Southwestern captured two wins this weekend to improve to 4-6 on the year and 3-1 in the SCAC. On Friday SU hosted Austin College and used numerous direct attacks to take down the 'Roos 3-1. Another three goal outing on Sunday against Centenary College gave Southwestern the weekend sweep. Lindsay Jakszta accounted for four of the six Pirate goals over the weekend. SU finally hits the road after over a month at home to face the University of Dallas on Sunday at noon.

The Texas Lutheran women's soccer program needed overtime, but eventually took care of Dallas 1-0 on Friday afternoon behind the strength of a strong defense and a dramatic goal by Sioned Kirkpatrick. After battling to a 0-0 draw through 98 minutes, Kirkpatrick gave the Bulldogs the win after putting a Courtney Farmer cross into the back of the net. It was Kirkpatrick's conference-leading eighth goal of the season, but it couldn't have come without the efforts of Farmer, who made a great run with the ball up the sideline. She fended off a Dallas defender to get the cross in that set Kirkpatrick up with the finish.

No. 5 Trinity swept a pair of SCAC games at home over the weekend, defeating Centenary 9-0 and downing Austin College 6-1. Shelby Guenthardt picked up her second career hat trick against Austin College on Sunday afternoon, becoming the fifth player in Trinity women's soccer history to score 40 or more goals in a career. Emily Jorgens picked up a total of 10 points during a prolific weekend for the junior midfielder, and she became seventh Tiger player ever to reach 100 career points.  Guenthardt is just seven points from reaching the same milestone. Trinity will continue its SCAC schedule with a road game against the University of Dallas this weekend. The Tigers won 6-2 and 7-1 against Dallas last season.
