Trinity's Skinner and Mayer Named ITA Men's All-Americans

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Trinity University Tigers men's tennis players Aaron Skinner and Jordan Mayer, both rising juniors,  have earned All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Skinner (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge High School) captured the ITA National Small College Singles Championship last October. He also advanced to the NCAA Division III Singles semifinals in May, and finished the season ranked fourth in the nation.

Skinner and Mayer (San Antonio/Churchill) shared the ITA Regional Doubles championship in the fall, which earned the tandem a slot in the National Small College Championships.

In addition, Skinner and Mayer were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, reserved for players with at least a 3.50 GPA. Trinity's men also garnered ITA All-Academic Team honors, for squads who have amassed a GPA of at least 3.20.

Last season, Head Coach Russell McMindes, who has completed four years at the Tigers helm, led Trinity to its fourth straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, in matches played at the Butch Newman Tennis Center.

Coach McMindes also became a four-time SCAC Coach of the Year, and Skinner was named SCAC Player of the Year.

The Tigers won an 18th overall SCAC title and advanced to the NCAA Team Tournament for the 20th time. Trinity defeated defeated Ohio Northern (5-0) and Gustavus Adolphus (5-2) at the NCAA Regional in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Williams College beat Trinity 5-1 in the national quarterfinals May 20 at Kalamazoo College, and the Tigers completed the season with a 20-10 record.
