Women's Soccer Recap (Week 8) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - All teams continue to chase Trinity University as we head towards the final conference weekend of the year. Southwestern and Texas Lutheran both helped their cause by going 2-0 on the weekend as they prepare to battle this weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

AROUND THE SCAC

The Austin College women’s soccer team went 0-2 over the weekend, falling 2-1 to Southwestern and 7-0 to No. 3-ranked Trinity to bring their record to 5-10-1 overall this season. Against Southwestern, the ‘Roos fell behind 2-0 in the first half and was unable to come back despite a goal from Lauren Scott at the 81 minute mark. Against Trinity, the ‘Roos fell behind 4-0 in the first half as the Tigers used a 40-2 shot advantage to top the ‘Roos. Emily Brockette made six saves against Southwestern and 10 against Trinity. This week the ‘Roos host the University of Dallas on Sunday as part of Homecoming Weekend.

Centenary dropped a pair of SCAC contests this weekend with 9-0 loss to Trinity and a 4-0 decision against Southwestern. The pair of setbacks extends the Ladies conference skid to four games. Laurie Priftis and Traci Lee each attempted a pair of shots on against SU on Sunday to lead the team. Lauren Cullen was saddled with both decisions despite garnering 24 saves, including a career-high 13 against the Pirates. Centenary returns to action on Friday, Oct. 25 as the Ladies host Dallas at 5 p.m. in the final home contest of the season.

The University of Dallas women’s soccer team (6-10, 4-6 SCAC) went 1-1 on the week at home in conference-competition. On Friday, in Irving, Texas, the Lady Crusaders were bested 3-1 by Texas Lutheran. In the loss, sophomore forward Rebecca Brunter scored from junior midfielder Clarice Cruz and junior defender Lindsey Jeo. On Sunday, head coach Angelina Pane’s bunch prevailed 1-0 in double-overtime against Schreiner. Freshman forward Mary Alexander took five shots in the game, and delivered the game-winning goal in the 101st-minute on an assist from sophomore midfielder Abigale Weisbrod. The win gave senior goalkeeper Brigid Hasson her second solo-shutout of the season. This week brings two SCAC road-games for Dallas -- Centenary (Friday, 5 p.m.); Austin (Sunday, 12 p.m.). 

The Schreiner went 0-1 on the week. On Sunday, Schreiner lost a heartbreaker at the University of Dallas 1-0 in double overtime. This week, Schreiner will play host to Southwestern on Friday and Trinity on Sunday.

Southwestern went 2-0 in action this weekend, defeating Austin College on Friday night and Centenary on Sunday to move to 7-2 in the SCAC. Sarah Bevins scored the first goal for the Pirates on Friday as SU defeated AC 2-1 and added three goals in the second half of Southwestern’s 4-0 win over Centenary Sunday. With the wins the Pirates improve to 8-7 on the year and remain in second place in the conference at 7-2. They head out on their final regular season road trip next weekend, facing Schreiner and Texas Lutheran on Friday and Sunday. 

The Texas Lutheran women’s soccer team scored three first-half goals to take down the University of Dallas 3-1 on Friday at Crusader Field. After finding themselves down a goal with Dallas finding the game’s first score, the Bulldogs offense woke up and rattled off three goals in just more than 20 minutes of action. Sioned Kirkpatrick was at the center of the goal scoring, notching two more goals on the day to add to her impressive season. After gaining the lead heading into halftime, the Bulldogs’ defense would hold Dallas down the rest of the way to secure the win. The defense held Dallas to just three shots on goal for the game. Friday marked the sixth straight game in which the Bulldogs’ have allowed no more than one goal to the opposition. Kirkpatrick scored twice more, including a dramatic late-game goal to secure a 2-1 win for the Bulldogs on the road against Houston-Victoria. The game-winning score came in 89th minute with just more than a minute remaining in the game. The goal came in answer to a Houston Victoria goal by Sheilat Akapo in the 88th minute that looked like it would send the game to overtime.

No. 3 Trinity extended its winning streak to 13 games with a win over nationally-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (NAIA), and a pair of SCAC road wins at Centenary and Austin College this weekend. The Tigers opened the weekend with a 9-0 win over Centenary, then capped the weekend with a 7-0 shutout over Austin College.  On Monday, Trinity recorded a 4-0 shutout over NAIA’s 21st-ranked team in OLLU, finishing off the Trinity’s regular season home schedule. The Tigers continue SCAc play this weekend with games at Texas Lutheran and Schreiner. Trinity won 7-0 over TLU and 10-0 against Schreiner in San Antonio earlier this season.
