NEW ORLEANS, La. - Three SCAC student-athletes, Maddie Murphy and Jessie Dean of Trinity as well as Kristyna Landry of Texas Lutheran, have been named to the 2014 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team.
Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, Christy Cazzola of UW-Oshkosh, Bria Halama of UW-La Crosse and Alexis Appezzato of Ramapo, a total of 416 women from 126 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards:
- Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
- Finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org
After earning only the second perfect score in SCAC Championship history, Murphy and Dean led the Tiger cross country team to the their first South/Southeast Regional victory with Murphy finishing first in the race. Trinity went on to compete in the National Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. where they finished 21st overall as a team.
Landry competed in her first NCAA Championships and came away with a 21st-place showing in the discus. She finished her career as the school record-holder in the event, with a toss of 145-6, and as the holder of three conference titles in the discus, including the 2014 SCAC Title. She was an key part to TLU winning its first SCAC Title and fifth straight conference championship (including ASC titles).
