Other outstanding performances in the SCAC
First year pitcher Sophia Ytuarte of Southwestern earned the win in the Pirates 7-1 win over Dallas last Friday. Ytuarte scattered just three hits over five innings, without allowing a single run and added one strikeout. Sophomore pitcher Allison Hughes of St. Thomas posted a perfect 3-0 record in the circle, leading the Celts to a sweep of Centenary at home last weekend. Hughes’ effort helped the Celts keep pace at the top of the SCAC standings and keep St. Thomas alive for the regular season softball crown. In 18 total innings of work, Hughes allowed just six earned runs and struck out nine total batters. Senior Ashlyn Strother of Texas Lutheran made a pair of appearances last week in helping the Bulldogs earn a series win over Trinity at home. Strother allowed just one hit and one walk over eight innings of work, while striking out five. First year pitcher Josephine Koelewyn of Trinity went 1-1 in her two appearances last weekend on the road against TLU. Koelewyn took the complete-game loss in the opening game on Sunday, but came back to earn the win in relief in game two, throwing 5.0 shutout innings during which she allowed just four hits.
