LAYNIE KOVACS OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a first-year libero from McKinney, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 30 through Sunday, November 5. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 10)
Kovacs helped the 'Roos finish the season strong, going 2-1 over their final three matches of the season. Kovacs had at least 25 digs in all three matches, with a high of 28 in the team's last SCAC match of the year, a win over Dallas. She totaled 85 digs in three matches for an average of 6.08-per-set.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior middle blocker/right side Brette Thornton of Trinity led the 13th-ranked Tigers to a 3-0 sweep of Schreiner in last week's regular season finale. She finished with a team-best four blocks in her three sets, helping to hold Schreiner to a .107 hitting percentage in the match. Thornton also had four digs, two aces, and nine kills (.333 hitting percentage) in the Tiger victory.
