ALLY LONGAKER OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior forward from Half Moon Bay, Calif., has been named SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Friday, January 15 through Saturday, January 16.
Longaker had an outstanding opening weekend for Austin College as the ‘Roos swept the University of Dallas to start the year 2-0, averaging a double-double and shooting 63.6% from the field and 100% from the free throw line. Longaker posted averages of 15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, and 2.0 assists in just 22.0 minutes-per-game in the two wins.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Freshman guard Addy Tremie of Centenary posted an impressive 18 points in her Ladies debut on Saturday against Texas Lutheran. She shot 7-16 from the floor in 38 minutes and made four of her 10 three-point attempts and grabbed seven rebounds as she nearly recorded a double-double in her collegiate debut. She added an assist and six of her seven rebounds were on the defensive end. Sophomore guard Zahra Cross of Schreiner helped lead the Mountaineers to a weekend sweep of the Southwestern with seven steals, 10 assists and 31 points in two games. Junior guard Lauren Fulenwider of Southwestern averaged 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal per game in a pair of losses for the Pirates last weekend. Senior guard Zariah McInnis of St. Thomas averaged 10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.5 assists per game last weekend to lead the Celts. Senior guard Olivia Balderas of Texas Lutheran posted consecutive career-highs in scoring. In Friday’s 87-39 victory, Balderas scored a career-high 16 points and made four three-pointers. In Saturday’s 70-61 win, she established a new career-high for points (18) and three-pointers made (6). In the second victory, she scored 15 of her 18 in the second half. Over the two games, she averaged 17.0 points and made 10 of her 15 three-point attempts (.667). She was 11-for-18 overall (.611) from the floor. She added three assists in the Friday win.
