OLIVIA LINTON OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a first-year outside hitter from Wimberley, Texas, has been named the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, March 8 through Sunday, March 14.
Linton had a huge weekend for the 'Roos, averaging 3.89 kills per set with a .317 hitting percentage as Austin College went 2-0 against Schreiner. Linton had 23 kills in the five set win in the first match, adding 12 kills in the second match of the day, and averaged 4.0 points per set over the weekend series. Her 23 kills in Saturday's first match are the most for a single-match in the SCAC this season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior opposite hitter Allie Freeburg of Colorado College hit .481 with 13 kills on an error-free 27 kills during CC's two three-set victories at Southwestern last weekend. Freeburg began the weekend with five kills on 12 attacks for .417 hitting percentage on Friday night. She also had four digs and a pair of aces. On Saturday, Freeburg put down eight kills on 16 attempts for a season-best .500 hitting percentage, giving her four matches with a .400 percentage or better. Sophomore setter Alaina Lanik of St. Thomas averaged 3.22 kills, 2.89 assists and 3.56 digs per set as the Celts split their two-match set against the Univeristy of Dallas. Lanik recorded a triple double in game two with 22 kills, 14 digs and 11 assists. Junior setter Lexie Acevedo of Trinity paced the Trinity offense with 39 assists as a three-rotation player in Saturday's home-opening doubleheader against Centenary. The junior signal-caller elevated the Tiger offense to a .327 hitting percentage in Saturday's action, which featured Trinity's entire roster seeing the court in both matches. Junior middle hitter Dayjah Whyte of Dallas led the Crusaders offense in two matches against University of St. Thomas last week with 25 kills. This included 14 (2.80 k/s) in the team's first win of the season, 3-2. She added four blocks in that game to give her 19.0 points. The junior had 30.5 points overall on the night.
