Trnity's Araujo; Austin College's Wyatt Named SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -Trinity's Victor Araujo and Austin College's Evan Wyatt have been named SCAC Men's Soccer Players-of-the-Week after outstanding performances this past weekend in conference soccer action.

 

 





SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 30th – October 6th

VICTOR ARAUJO OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior midfielder from Salvador, Brazil, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, September 30th through Sunday, October 6th. 

Araujo led Trinity to a weekend sweep in SCAC play, defeating both the University of Dallas and Colorado College to move into second place in the conference standings. 

With the game tied 1-1 at halftime against Colorado College, Araujo provided a huge lift for Trinity by either scoring or assisting on all four of the team's second half goals. He started with an assist on the game-winner – just 3:49 into the period. He then scored back-to-back goals and assisted on another, with the entire flurry of scoring coming in less than 16 minutes of game time.  

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward Caleb Walters of Austin College delivered a dramatic victory for Austin College, scoring in the 98th minute to lift the 'Roos past TLU 1-0 in overtime. Sophomore midfielder Fernando Albiter of Schreiner scored a goal and an assist against Centenary and helped Schreiner gain it's first SCAC Men's Soccer victory over Centenary. Senior forward Steven Resnik of Southwestern was an offensive powerhouse this week, scoring two goals, one game winner, for four points as the Pirates remained undefeated in conference play.  Colorado College, Centenary, Dallas, and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.
 


SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Games of September 30th – October 6th

EVAN WYATT OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore defender from Allen, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, September 30th through Sunday, October 6th.

Wyatt anchored an Austin College defense that shut out both Schreiner and Texas Lutheran, with both games going to overtime. 

Wyatt played all 207 minutes over the weekend, consistently winning possession from opposing forwards and keying the defensive effort that gave the 'Roos a pair of clean sheets and led the 'Roos to a 1-1 SCAC weekend including a huge 1-0 overtime win over Texas Lutheran.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman goalkeeper Rylan Whan of Centenary totaled 20 saves for the week, including a career-high 11 in the setback to Schreiner. Senior defender Matthew Nickell of Southwestern posted one assist from the backfield for the Pirates for one point. He lead a backfield that allowed just two goals over two games as SU remained undefeated in conference play. Junior goalkeeper Matt Cardone of Trinity led his team to a pair of road victories in SCAC play over the weekend, defeating both Dallas and Colorado College. Colorado College, Dallas, Schreiner, and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.
