LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Daniel Poole of Southwestern University and Sally Humphries of Austin College have been selected as the SCAC Male and Female Character & Community Student-Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Sunday, October 27.
The SCAC Character & Community award was created in 2009 to
honor and recognize the efforts of the
extraordinary student-athletes of the conference who not
only excel athletically on the field, course, court, pool or
track, but also by serving their campus and community.

DANIEL POOLE OF SOUTHWESTSERN
UNIVERSITY, a senior goalkeeper on
the Pirates' men's soccer team from Shreveport, La., has been
selected the SCAC Character & Community Male
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, October
27.
In addition to his role as starting goalkeeper and currently being
ranked second in the conference in goals against average, Poole was
also a member of the Southwestern's men's track and field team and
won the Javelin at the 2013 SCAC Men's Track & Field
Championship.
Away from the pitch and the track, Poole serves as a member of the
American Chemical Society, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Treasurer for
Kappa Alpha. He has an on-capmus job as a Resident Assistant, a
position he has held for the past two years.
Poole has been involved with Destination: Service, attending
service trips to both New Orleans and Gila, New Mexico. In
addition, he is an active member of Broadmoor United Methodist
church in his hometown of Shreveport.
She is also a Youth Director at Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church, and is a student leader for Austin College Communication/Inquiry classes this fall, serving as a mentor to fellow students on campus. In addition to her work on campus, she has also participated in multiple volunteer roles throughout the community, including working with the ACES after school program in the Sherman independent school district, and has also worked as a volunteer with the Pottsboro, Texas fire department.
Through her work with the Omega Zeta sorority, Humphries has also worked on numerous service projects, and has volunteered with the Salvation Army. This semester, she is also volunteering with the organization Go Out For A Run, an after school program encouraging children to get and stay active in a positive setting.
