AROUND THE SCAC

Austin College went 0-2 over the weekend, falling to both Schreiner and Texas Lutheran in a pair of road games to bring its record to 3-8-2 overall this season. The 'Roos fell 1-0 at Schreiner before dropping a 2-1 heartbreaker at TLU. Against TLU, the 'Roos fell behind 1-0 heading into the second half before Seth Windsor tallied in the 64th minute to tie things up. However, Texas Lutheran scored with less than three minutes remaining to hand the 'Roos the loss. Ian Allison made five saves in the loss to TLU, while Andrew Celio made two saves in the loss to Schreiner. This weekend the 'Roos host Southwestern and Trinity.

Centenary fell in a pair of SCAC contests this weekend. The Gents fell 5-0 at Texas Lutheran and closed out the weekend slate with a 2-0 outing at Schreiner. The Maroon and White attempted just 11 shots in the contest with Kellan Klaus attempting four shots combined in the two outings. Rylan Whan and Austin Andrews each saw action in goal for the Gents with Whan being saddled with both decisions.

Colorado College's senior forward Brandon Ogilvie struck for a pair of goals and sophomore goalkeeper Tom Crosby stopped all three shots that he faced in his first collegiate start to lead Colorado College to a 4-0 victory at Southwestern on Friday night. Ogilvie, who has six goals in the last six games, put the Tigers on the board when he converted off of a precision passes through the right side of the defense by sophomore midfielder Seth Newby. Unlike the previous meeting when CC was unable to extend its one-goal lead and eventually dropped a 2-1 decision to the Pirates, Colorado College added a pair of insurance tallies in rapid succession early in the second frame. Ogilvie completed his second multiple-goal game of the season 84 seconds into the second half after taking a feed from sophomore midfielder Ryan Huettel. Just 33 seconds later, senior forward Sean Parham made the score 3-0 off a pass from freshman defender Christian Wulff. Freshman forward Caden MacKenzie rounded out the scoring in the 70th minute, giving the Tigers a season-high four goals. Newby set up the play to complete the first multiple-point game of his career. Meanwhile, Crosby earned the shutout in his first collegiate start and CC's defense bounced back to record its sixth clean sheet of the season. Missed opportunities and a pair of penaltykick goals were too much to overcome as Colorado College dropped a 4-0 decision at Trinity University on Sunday. Even though the Tigers were kept off the scoreboard for just the second time this season, it stayed in the game thanks to the efforts of Crosby, who made a career high seven saves. Unfortunately, there wasn't much he could do about TU's first two goals, which were scored on PKs in the 34th and 67th minute. CC launched nine shots, only three of which were on target. The best scoring opportunities were on direct kicks from just outside the penalty area, but both sailed high and wide of the Trinity goal. The Tigers return home to play host to Schreiner on Friday, Oct. 18, and Texas Lutheran on Sunday, Oct. 20.

University of Dallas (5-8-1, 1-7-1 SCAC) went 0-2 on the week in conference action. With both games of the road variety, the Crusaders fell 6-0 to Trinity on Friday in San Antonio. On Sunday, in Georgetown, head coach David Hoffmann's group fell 4-1 to Southwestern. This week, Dallas will play two home SCAC contests -- Texas Lutheran (Friday, 4 p.m.); Schreiner (Sunday, 3 p.m.).

Schreiner was 2-0 on the week - earning important SCAC victories in both matches. On Friday, Schreiner hosted Austin College and recorded a 1-0 victory. On Sunday, Schreiner beat Centenary College, 2-0. This week the Mountaineers will travel to Colorado College (Friday, Oct. 18th) and University of Dallas (Sunday, Oct. 20th).

Southwestern suffered its first conference loss this week, falling to Colorado College on Friday night. SU's offense was unable to get going as they were shutout, losing 4-0. Sunday, the Pirates rebounded with a huge second half showing, scoring three goals in the frame to win 4-1. Southwestern improves to 10-5 on the year and 8-1 in the SCAC. They return to action on Friday, facing Austin College in Sherman before travelling to Shreveport, La. to take on Centenary College.

Texas Lutheran had five different players score Friday in the Bulldogs' 5-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Centenary (La.). TLU out-shot Centenary 27-5 and held The Gents to two shots on goal. TLU registered 13 shots on goal. Alejandro Martinez scored with just three minutes remaining to help the Texas Lutheran men's soccer program to a dramatic 2-1 win over Austin College on a rain-soaked Gustafson Field. With the game tied at 1-1, all signs seemed to be pointing towards an overtime affair before Martinez put the Bulldogs in front with a goal. The game winner came off a long pass from Isaac Lopez which landed in front of Martinez and set him up for a breakaway chance. The goal was Martinez's third of the year. After almost a half of scoreless play, the scoring was opened up by Texas Lutheran courtesy of Lopez's team-leading fifth goal of the season. The goal came from a shot that ricocheted off several defenders and beat the Austin College goalkeeper.

No. 21 Trinity recorded a pair of shutouts in its final regular season home contests of the year, blanking both Dallas and Colorado College. The Tigers started with a 6-0 win over Dallas on Friday night, then finished with a 4-0 shutout win over Colorado College to remain tied for first in the SCAC standings. Trinity will resume conference play on the road next weekend, facing off against Centenary and Austin College. Prior to that, the Tigers will face Division II University of Incarnate Word on Tuesday night in a matchup of two San Antonio teams.
