Trinity's Lawson; Colorado College's Worthington Named SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity's Jonny Lawson and Colorado College's Andrew Worthington have been named SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week after their outstanding performances that lead to their team's succcess this past weekend.

 

 





SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 14th – October 20th

JONNY LAWSON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior forward from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, October 14th through Sunday, October 20th. 

Lawson led Trinity to three wins over the past week, starting with a 2-1 victory over Division I Incarnate Word, and finishing with a pair of road wins in conference play.

Lawson scored four goals and two assists in the two SCAC games this weekend, opening with a first-half hat trick against Centenary on Friday night.  He also contributed two assists in the game, putting his stamp on five of the team's nine goals.  

It marked the first hat trick of the season for the Tigers, and the eight points was also a team season-high. Lawson has now scored goals in six straight games against Division III opponents.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior forward Brandon Ogilvie of Colorado College struck for three goals and added an assist to lead Colorado College to a pair of victories last week. Junior midfielder Zach Faulkner of Southwestern assisted on all three goals this weekend for the Pirates. Sophomore defender Steven Ybarra of Texas Lutheran scored the game-winning goal for the Bulldogs in their 2-0 win over Dallas on Friday. Austin College, Centenary, Dallas,, and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.


SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Games of October 14th – October 20th

ANDREW WORTHINGTON OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior defender from Hinsdale, Ill., has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 14th through Sunday, October 20th.

Worthington got it done at both ends of the field while helping Colorado College win a pair of games last weekend. 

Playing all 90 minutes in each game, Worthington anchored the defense that allowed only combined shots, eight by Schreiner and three by Texas Lutheran. Sunday's 3-0 shutout of TLU was the Tigers' seventh clean sheet of the season. It also marked the 11th time in 16 games CC held an opponent to fewer than five shots on goal and the 12th time an opponent managed fewer than 10 total shots. 

Worthington, who has played every minute in 15 of 16 games this season, recorded his first assist of the year on Colorado College's first goal in Friday's 4-1 victory over Schreiner and assisted on the second goal against Texas Lutheran on Sunday. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defender James Saulnier of Austin College anchored an outstanding defensive effort from Austin College against Southwestern and Trinity, helping the team shut out the Pirates Junior defender Zach Howard of Schreiner helped lead Schreiner to a 1-1 week that involved a 2-0 shutout vs. Dallas Senior defender Matthew Nickell of Southwestern scored two goals from the backfield this weekend on four shots for a .500 shot percentage. Sophomore defender Tom Carwile of Trinity and the Tiger defense gave up just 14 shots on goal during the three games this week, allowing just one goal. Centenary, Dallas, and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.
