GEORGIA MULLINS OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior middle hitter from Olathe, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, March 22 through Sunday, March 28.
Mullins dominated on both sides of the net while leading No. 1 Colorado College to back-to-back sweeps of third-place Austin College. Mullins averaged 3.50 kills and 1.83 blocks per set with 11 total blocks and eight digs on the weekend. On Sunday, she had a hand in a season-high six blocked shots as CC held the 'Roos the 'Roos to -.034 team hitting percentage in the match, which marked the third time this season an opponent hit in negative numbers against the Tigers.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior middle blocker Emily Ellis of Trinity led #2 Trinity to a pair of 3-0 wins over St. Thomas last weekend, extending the team's winning streak to six matches and improving the record to 10-2. Ellis averaged 1.8 blocks/set over the two matches, piling up 11 blocks in just six sets. She was a major factor in holding St. Thomas to a .023 hitting percentage for the weekend. Junior defensive specialist/libero Ali Grona of Southwestern had 41 digs in two four-set wins over the weekend, averaging 5.12 per set. She also had eight assists and two aces.
