Six Teams, Seven Student-Athletes Earn USTFCCCA Academic Awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The United States Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2022 NCAA Division III Track & Field Team and Athlete Academic awards on Wednesday.

In total, six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) teams, three women’s and three men’s, received the Academic Team award. Colorado College, University of Dallas and Trinity University received the award for both the men’s and women’s programs. The Colorado College women led all SCAC teams with a 3.73 GPA. Colorado College and Trinity saw both of its programs recognized last year we well while the Dallas women are making their second-straight appearance on the list. 

A total of 368 teams were honored for their academics, including 213 women's programs and 155 men's squads. To be recognized, a program must have at least a 3.1 cumulative team GPA.

In addition to the academic teams, seven individuals were recognized for their academics. On the women’s side, Colorado College junior Kendall Accetta and first-year teammate Elliot Singer, along with Trinity sophomore Ellie Catron earned All-Academic honors. The All-Academic honorees on the men’s side included Colorado College senior Josh Fry, Trinity teammates, senior Sean Majors and sophomore Josue Parra and Texas Lutheran junior Ezrael Powell.  Both Catron and Majors are being honored for the second consecutive year.

Overall, there were more than 1,000 men and women who were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes in Division III Track & Field.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards: Must have finished the indoor season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 50, but who were accepted into the Indoor National Championship, are eligible or have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the indoor descending order list on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 35 relay teams, but who were accepted in the relay at the Indoor National Championship (alternates are excluded), are eligible. Finally, any competing relay team member on an expanded descending order list to include 35 institutions (1 relay team per institution) is eligible.
