GEORGIA MULLINS OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a senior middle hitter from Olathe, Kansas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 13 through Sunday, September 19. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 3)
Mullins put up All-America type numbers while leading fourth-ranked Colorado College to a 3-1 record despite playing four matches in less than 24 hours at the Johns Hopkins Invitational last weekend in Baltimore. On the defensive side of the net, she averaged 1.50 blocks per set with two solo and 19 block assists. On Friday, Mullins recorded six total blocks in the four-set win over Randolph Macon and five on the sweep of Ithaca.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior libero/defensive specialist Ali Grona led Southwestern with 39 digs in seven sets, averaging 5.57 per set, anchoring a defense that held opponents to a .123 hitting percentage. Senior libero Sami Lin of Trinity posted a 5.50 digs per set mark in the third-ranked Tigers' weekend sweep of the 2021 Trinity National Invitational which included the team's second 3-0 victory over a nationally-ranked opponent this season over No. 18 Northwestern-St. Paul Friday night (9/10 - No. 2 Emory). Lin's production in the back row came in bursts throughout the weekend as she collected notched 13 of her 22 digs against Chapman University Saturday, in just two of her four sets played on the weekend, adding four service aces in the process. Senior libero Lexi Morris of Texas Lutheran had 86 digs across the Bulldogs' three matches on the week, averaging 6.62 per set. Junior outside hitter/right side Brooke Byer of Schreiner led the Mountainners with 21 digs against McMurry - the team's only match of the week.
