Trinity Leads Four SCAC Schools In Learfield Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Trinity University sits in a tie for 16th place to lead all Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member institutions in the 2022-23 Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final fall standings. Complete Standings

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. 

The Trinity Tigers have totaled 207 points in the overall standings, based on NCAA postseason competition, led by the women's volleyball team racking up 90 points after advancing to the Division III national championship match and finishing in second place. The women's soccer team and the football program both posted Top 10 finishes and earned 64 and 53 points, respectively, in the NACDA standings.

Colorado College sits in 62nd place with 86.5 points following the completion of the fall season. The Tigers' women's cross country team earned 54 points following its 20th place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship meet. The men's cross country squad garnered 32.5 points via its fifth place regional team finish.

In its first season eligible for NCAA Division III championship play, University of St. Thomas is tied for 79th place with 64 points. The Celts' men's soccer team advanced to the third round to earn a top 10 finish - the league's best team finish in the sport since 2018.

Rounding out the SCAC teams in the fall standings was Texas Lutheran University who is tied for 119th place with 25 points. The Bulldogs earned their first-ever SCAC women's volleyball tournament title and first NCAA appearance since 2007 (third overall for the program) before falling to University of Chicago in a five-set opening round heartbreaker. 

Johns Hopkins has the lead in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Div. III fall standings with 505.50 points, while Williams sits in second (443.50) and MIT is third overall with 348.00 points.

To date, seven fall NCAA Div. III championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross country – MIT; men’s cross country – Johns Hopkins; field hockey – Middlebury; women's volleyball – Juniata; women’s soccer – Johns Hopkins; men’s soccer – Chicago; football – North Central (Ill.).
