JOEY RAMIREZ OF CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY (TX), a junior forward from Weimar, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 3 through Sunday, February 9. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 13)

Ramirez paced the Tornados to a 3-0 week in conference play while averaging a remarkable 27.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. In a 92-74 victory over McMurry, he collected his fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 boards. In the 84-67 victory over Centenary, Ramirez exploded for a career-high 41 points on only two free throw attempts to go along with eight rebounds. The 41 points marked the most by a Tornado since the 2015-16 season and the highest by an SCAC athlete since Andray Thomas Jr., poured in 41 points against Pacific back in November of 2019. He then posted a game-high 23 points in the 81-70 win over the Ozarks. In the three games, Ramirez shot 65.4 percent (50 percent 3FG%) from the field.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior guard Quentin Beverly of Centenary averaged 24.0 PPG in a pair of home games over the weekend against Concordia and McMurry highlighted by a tying career-high with 32 points on Sunday against the War Hawks. Beverly shot over 40 percent from both the field and beyond the arc for the weekend and connected on 10 three-point field goals, averaged 37.5 minutes/game, and had five rebounds, three steals, and an assist. Beverly has reached double figures 12 times and scored 20+ six times this season. Junior forward Asher Nofziger of Colorado College averaged a spectacular 25 points and 9.5 rebounds per game against Austin College and Dallas last weekend. Nofziger led CC to a 78-62 win over the 'Roos after dishing 22 points and grabbing eight boards. He followed it up with a 28-point and 11-rebound performance against Dallas on Sunday. Nofziger added 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game as well. Junior guard Johny Olmstead of Dallas was outstanding in leading the Crusaders to a key road split last weekend, falling to St. Thomas on Friday, before knocking off Colorado College on Sunday. Olmsted averaged 13.5 points on 47.1 percent shooting and added 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game to keep Dallas in the thick of the SCAC Tournament race. Senior guard Matt Pena of McMurry led the War Hawks to a 2-1 record last week in SCAC play, picking up wins over Ozarks and Centenary on the road. Pena averaged 14.3 points per game and added 3.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.0 assists per game. In addition to the team success, Pena surpassed the 1,000 career point mark last week and set the program record for most three-point field goals in a career. Senior wing Justice Marmara of Ozarks averaged 20.0 points and shot 85 percent from the free throw line in a pair of home games for the Eagles. He scored 21 points and drilled a trio of three-pointers on Friday against McMurry and followed that up on Sunday with 19 points, including 8-for-8 from the free throw line against Concordia. Senior center Kamden Ross of Schreiner continued his outstanding season, posting a pair of double-doubles in leading the Mountaineers to a pair of victories. Ross averaged 26.5 points per game on 60.6 percent shooting, lead by a season-high 35 points in a win over TLU on the road on Saturday. In addition to his scoring prowess, Ross added 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game. Senior guard Marion Williams of St. Thomas helped extend the Celts win steak to 15 after averaging 16.0 points on 45.5 percent shooting. Williams also added 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 rebounds per game to help lift UST to home wins against Dallas and Austin College. Sophomore forward Teddy Tapken of Texas Lutheran poured in a career-high 27 points on 11-for-15 shooting in a tough loss at home to Schreiner last Saturday. Tapken also added seven rebounds, two assists and two steal in the game against the Mountaineers. Senior guard Jacob Millhouse of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of road wins in SCAC play over the weekend, defeating both Texas Lutheran and Southwestern by 25+ points each to extend the team's winning streak to 12 straight games. Millhouse averaged 11.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while playing just 20.5 minutes per contest. He also shot 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from the field, 50 percent (3-of-6) from three-point range, and hit all six of his free throw attempts .
