JOSE AGUIRRE OF CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY (TEXAS), a senior forward from Oceanside, Calif., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 14th through Sunday, October 20th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 8)
Aguirre was on fire last weekend as he rang home an SCAC best, four goals (one game winner) and two assists for a total of 10 points in a pair of key league wins on the road for Concordia. He netted his first career hat trick in a 3-2 victory over Centenary on Friday, including the game winner in the 81st minute. He then followed that up with a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over the Ozarks on Sunday. Aguirre’s efforts help the Tornados secure six crucial points in the league standings, vaulting Concordia into third place going into the final two weeks of the regular season. On the season, Aguirre is now fifth in the SCAC with eight goals and tied for fourth in the league with 19 points.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior forward Louis Catchpole of Austin College had a big match to help the 'Roos win 3-1 over Schreiner on Friday, scoring once and assisting on another goal as Austin College went 1-1 over the weekend. Senior midfielder Brennan Amato of Centenary scored a pair of goals for the Gents in their two weekend matches at home highlighted by the game-winning goal on Sunday in Centenary's 2-1 comeback win over McMurry. Amato found the net in the 87th minute to make it 2-1 Gents. The goal was Amato's fourth of the season and he scored for the second match in a row after tallying the tying goal in Friday's 3-2 loss to Concordia. Amato now has two game-winning goals this season. Senior defender Brock Bernard of Ozarks registered his first multigoal goal game of the year, scoring twice in the Eagles 4-0 home win over McMurry last Friday night. Junior midfielder Adam Knutson of Trinity continued his torrid season, scoring the game winning goal in both Tiger victories last weekend on the road at Dallas and at Austin College. Knutson continues to pace the SCAC with 12 goals and 27 points on the year and is currently fourth in the nation with five game-winning goals on the season.
