SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Third ranked Trinity University received goals from Abigail Loar, Kelly Watts and Emily Jorgens as the Tigers upended fifth ranked Hardin-Simmons University, 3-1 in NCAA women's soccer second round action Sunday afternoon. Box Score
Jorgens put the Tigers (22-0) on the board first with an unassited goal in the 18th minute. Her goal was the only one of the first half.
Hardin-Simmons (20-2) tied things up in the 58th minute thanks to Devon Howard's tally off of a feed from teammate Vivian Wells.
Trinity responded and took the lead for good in the 76th minute thanks to Loar's header off a free kick from Shelby Hopkins. The Tigers then added an insurance goal from Watts in the 79th minute.
Trinity's Dvan Osequeda made six saves while HSU's Rebecca Roth finished with three saves.
The Tigers held a 21-17 shot advantage while the Cowgirls held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
With the win, Trinity advances to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship third round ("Sweet 16") where the Tigers will take on the Ithaca Bombers (13-3-3) on either November 18th or 19th.
ATLANTA, Ga. - One day after defeating Roanoke College in a shootout, the Centre College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 5 Emory University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday, Nov. 13 in Atlanta, Ga.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead 16:50 into the first half when Lidija Barauskas found the back of the net off an assist from Veronica Romero.
The score remained that way until the 57:15 mark in the second half when Merrill Bachouros scored her to make it 2-0. Romero and Charlotte Butker recorded an assist each.
Emory out-shot Centre 25-3 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) took the loss in goal for the Colonels. Lenz made 13 saves in the match.
With the defeat, Centre's season comes to an end with a 14-5-3 overall record.
