SUWANEE, Ga. - Centre limited Austin College to just 179 total yards as the Colonels opened up the SCAC portion of their schedule with a 45-0 win over the visiting Kangaroos. Birmingham-Southern used a Shawn Morris touchdown with 37 seconds left to prevail over upset minded Sewanee, 28-21.

Austin College was limited to 179 yards of total offense by Centre College on their way to a 45-0 defeat in Danville over the weekend. The ‘Roos are now 0-4 overall and 0-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play after the loss. The Colonels scored 14 points in a two minutes pan in the first quarter and followed that up with 10 more points in quarter number two, and three more second half touchdowns including two in the third quarter made it a 45-0 final. It marked the first time Austin College was shut out since losing 23-0 to McMurry on Sept. 9, 2006, a span of 50 games. Austin College picked up 15 first downs in the game, but managed just 48 rushing yards on 39 attempts and turned the ball over five times with two fumbles and three interceptions. Travis Zambiasi threw for 104 yards and rushed for 36 more, leading Austin College in both categories, and Jordan Schell had 42 receiving yards on three catches. Kenneth Eneh made 12 tackles to lead Austin College defensively. The ‘Roos are back in action next Saturday when they host Birmingham-Southern for Parent and Family Weekend on October 1 with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
Centre scored 14 points on its first two possessions and didn't look back going on to a 45-0 shutout victory over Austin SCAC opener for both teams last week. The shutout marked the first time a Centre defense has not allowed a point in a game since Sept. 11 of last year in a 35-0 win over Maryville. It is also the sixth time in the last 11 tries Centre has won its conference opener. After losing the first game in the series, the Colonels have now won the last five, with last week’s victory being the largest margin of victory in the five games. In addition, Centre has scored 38 points or more in each of its first three games. The last time that happened was in 2001, the same year the Colonels shared the SCAC Championship. The Colonels will travel to Greencastle, Ind. this week to play DePauw in a non-conference game.
Millsaps returned home to begin their conference season as they took on the Trinity Tigers. Both defenses were outstanding on Saturday, continuously shutting each other down on numerous drives. The Majors held the number one offense in the SCAC to only 262 total yards thanks in part to junior Jeb White’s 17 tackles. The Major offense continued to struggle though, only accumulating 195 yards of total offense as they fell 10-3. The Majors prepare to hit the road as they travel to the Mountain next week to take on Sewanee.
Rhodes had a dominating performance on defense, offense and in the kicking game to snap a 10 game losing streak to DePauw with a 24-14 win. The win marked the first head coaching victory of new Rhodes Head Football Coach Dan Gritti. Rhodes scored first on an 80 yard touchdown pass from Senior QB Brett Stoots to Sophomore RB Dane Wilson. Despite leading only 7-0 at the half, Rhodes dominated every aspect of play, including registering their first blocked punt of the year by senior Jake Jackson. In the second half, Rhodes extended its lead after a 23 yard field goal by kicker Lucas Stockhausen and another 9 yard pass touchdown from Stoots to Wilson. Entering the 4th quarter up 17-0, Rhodes continued to move the ball until the final score by Wilson put Rhodes up 24-7. DePauw added a final touchdown long after the game was settled with 54 seconds left. The Lynx were led on offense by Stoots, who had 29 completions for 342 yards and 2 touchdowns. The defense was led by Tom Zigtema with 11 tackles. Next week Rhodes hosts LaGrange at 1 p.m.
