MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Top seeded Rhodes College advanced to its third straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship match with a 3-2 win over fourth seeded Sewanee: University of the South. Box Score | Official Site

Rhodes jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal from senior defender Sara Sanders off of a penalty corner at 5:12 of the first half. The Lynx did not waste any time as classmate Sara Kennedy extended the lead to 2-0 at 13:36 of the first half.

Sewanee answered back at 23:03 of the first half on a goal from senior foward Elise Landau. The goal cut Rhodes' lead to 2-1 at the half. 

Rhodes' Katie Faucher put the Lynx up 3-1 on an unassisted goal at 31:47 of the first half.

Rhodes outshot Sewanee by a 2-1 (13-6) margin in the first half and dominated play in the opening 35 minutes but only held a one goal lead.

The Lynx continued thier momentum in the second half outshooting the Tigers 13-3. However, Sewanee withstood Rhodes' attack.

Sewanee junior forward Molly Kennedy made things interesting as her goal at 69:22 of the second half cut Rhodes' lead in half, at 3-2.

Rhodes, though, withstood the final 38 seconds to advance to the program's fifth overall SCAC championship match. The Lynx improved to 10-6 while Sewanee finished its season at 5-10.

Rhodes will play the winner of this afternoons second semifinal between No. 2 Hendrix College and No. 3 Centre College.
