SCAC lands six on Capital One Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Teams

SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) had six student-athletes named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District® Women's At-Large teams, as selected and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Birmingham-Southern College and Colorado College each placed a league-high two student-athletes on the teams. The Panthers had senior Jennifer Commander and junior Raeann Lamere named to the team. Colorado College seniors Grace Maloney and Deanna Thirkell both were named to the team as well.

Commander (golf) earned her honor by carrying a 3.74 Grade Point Average (GPA) as a Spanish/English major. Lamere (tennis) was honored after she maintained a 3.70 GPA as a biology major.

Maloney (lacrosse) was named to the team after producing a 3.47 GPA as a psychology major. Thirkell (tennis) carried a sterling 3.98 GPA as a romance languages major.

Centre College and Sewanee: University of the South each had one plaer named to the team. Centre's Emily Bachert (golf) earned her honor as she had a 3.53 GPA as a biochemistry and molecular biology major. Sewanee's Meg Welton (lacrosse) was named to the team after she maintained a 3.40 GPA as an English major.

The Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
