Birmingham-Southern's Morris; Centre's Gay Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Birmingham-Southern junior running back Shawn Morris and Centre junior kicker/punter Jordan Gay were both named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for their performances in the opening week of the 2011 season.

Morris, who was named this week's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, earned a spot on the team by rushing for a school record 193 yards on 15 carries in the Panthers' 28-7 win at LaGrange. He also added two touchdowns, one of which was a school record 88-yard touchdown run.

Gay, who was named this week's SCAC Special Teams Player of the Week, was recognized for his performance in Centre's 38-21 win at Hanover (Ind.). Gay connected on five field goals (46, 23,25, 34,29). He also averaged 43.8 yards per punt on five punts with three of those five punts landing inside Hanover's 20-yard line. Gay's five field goals were one shy of the SCAC and NCAA Division III record of six in a single game.
